Persistant Strep throat and breast feeding
I have strep throat and have had it for a while. I orginally went through 3 rounds of antibotics and then the doc claimed that I really didn't have strep throat anymore just drainage. She did do throat cultures but I was on antibotics and they all came back negative. I have been off antiobotics for 2 weeks now and my throat has always hurt but now it has gotten really bad. Hurts so bad I don't want to eat and I am taking motrin for pain. Orginall doc refered me to infectious disease but then never faxed records and they need them before they even consider seeing me and they aren't even sure if they will. So the question is what the hell do I do now. THe problem I kept running into is that the antibotics that are safe when breastfeeding don't seem to cure my strep throat. Would you hold out for infectious disease, go to an ears nose and throat or go back to a general practicioner.
ALso does anyone know antiobotics that are really strong that are safe for breast feeding. THe docs keep asking and I have no clue. I have taken amoxicilen, augmenten and one other one.
Thanks for reading sorry this is so long!

Dand I just posted about a doc in dallas, then remembered that you moved. So I deleted. I'd go to an ENT doc asap.

Oh man! I am so sorry to hear that you are still feeling bad!
I agree with Donna. I would go to an ENT doc. Maybe Cori can help you out with a list of medications that are safe. I think I remember reading that she has that book that tells what is safe.
Hugs!
I hope you feel better soon!!

I dealt with strep for 8 weeks when Colton was around 10 months, and tried Augmentin, Amoxicillin & Cipro. Levaquin finally knocked it out, but I had to do some research to determine it's safety while breastfeeding (Dr. Hale said it's okay), since my doctor said I'd have to wean to use it.
I'd suggest you do whatever it takes to kick this illness now. The prolonged illnesses, meds & weakness dried me up completely, forcing us to wean at 13 months. Plus I'm sure you'd just like to be well!

No, my son didn't get it. I even took him to the Pedi (per my doc's suggestion), and the Pedi said children under 3 rarely get strep. I was treated by my family doctor, but had the Levaquin not worked, I had an appt scheduled for an ENT.
