* Should I be concerned??? *

Today at lunch (about 30min. ago) at McDonalds Cassidy fell backwards off the booth & hit her head. She hit hard & immediately started screaming. I picked her right up & held her until she calmed down. She was talking while crying & I couldn't understand what she was saying but don't think it had anything to do with her falling... When I put her in her carseat I asked her a few questions I knew she could answer...what's my name, what's her name, what did she see outside...she answered them all. She almost fell asleep a couple of times on the way home but I sang to her to keep her awake. (We live one major block away from McD.) We got home & I gave her Tylenol because she said her head hurt (of course). I sat down with her on my lap (like always before nap) & she fell RIGHT to sleep.

A) She fell because she canNOT hold still & it happened right as I picked up our keys to leave.

B) She hasn't fallen asleep in the car in a LONG time...

C) She NEVER goes *right* to sleep anymore, ever! It always takes me forever because she just doesn't stop moving. & This was as soon as I sat down.

BUT...she did get up early today so maybe she was extra tired, but I know it still would have been a battle without the fall...

I have to leave in 15min. to go to court (speeding ticket). Should I have Jeremy wake her up in 30min. or so (like when someone has a concussion)... Should I even be worried at all? She was coherent, didn't vomit or bleed or anything... I'm just not sure. How fast she went to sleep is what worries me the most & how hard her head hit the ground. I have no idea how long I'm going to be gone & I know I'm going to be panicking...

What should I do??? :(

She may be just tired from all the crying and being upset, ya know?

Its not uncommon to act a bit strange immediately after a head injury. I would just check on her periodically. I would be concerned if she was difficult to arouse from her nap, had difficulty staying awake etc, started vomiting, worsened coordination. What did her head hit, cement, carpet?? If the impact was pretty hard then I would check on her every two hours during the night too

ETA;;Yes, I think it would be a good idea for Jeremy to check on her in 30 minutes...just make sure she is able to be aroused from sleep..

Ouch! Sorry she hit her head. I'm always super parnoid after an accident that involves the head happens. I'd make sure he pays close attention to her while she is asleep while you are gone.

I don't know. I'd call her Dr. just to be safe. I would just keep checking on her, and making sure her eyes are dilating and such. I hope all is well.

Well, I am back & they are both sleeping, she has turned over from when I layed her down... should I go wake her up? If I wake her up & she's fine, she'll be VERY angry with me/us all night! :(

Alicia, it was hard tile...maybe cement, not carpet...restaurant floor!

I'm super scared of head injuries too. Jeremy's had 6 concussions & the last one put him in the hospital (5yrs. ago). Also with her already having a neurological disorder, that scares me! But I would think if she were going to have a seizure from it, with her Epilepsy, she'd have had one right away...?

Ugh... I don't want to overreact, but I don't want to underreact & with it happening right at naptime, I don't know HOW to react...!

I would wake her up...just to be on the safe side. How long does she usually nap?

lol No, she wouldn't fall back asleep if *I* woke her up...

However - we just got a compromise!

I heard her in there talking so I went to the door (she's napping with Daddy) & Jeremy put his arm around her & she said 'go night night' & fell back asleep... She always talks in her sleep, so I think this was pretty normal & at least she was awake for a bit but still went back to sleep...

I'm thinking she's probably be okay...but I'll definitely watch her closely tonight!

THANK YOU so much Alicia!!! (& Others! :))

Chera - the nurses always told me that as long as her knot goes out,not in and she doesn't lose consciousness from the fall that my girls are ok. Just make sure she can still continue to answer basic questions would be what I would do. :hug to you! That is so scary to watch them fall!

Julia fell and got a concusion in October. She screamed and cried for maybe 10 minutes. Her head swelled up and I kid you not, looked like it was going to burst wide open, it was so swollen. As soon as she stopped crying, she started to fall asleep. it was really really hard to keep her awake. She was lathargic. Would not walk or sit up or anything. 30 minutes after the fall, the throwing up started. We were in the ER by this time.

I agree with everything Alicia has said. And if she is not throwing up and seems to be moving around ok, she is probably ok. But in the end, if you are really worried, call the doc.

Thanks again everyone! I think she's okay... She played fine all afternoon. She did end up sleeping over 4hrs. & went RIGHT to sleep tonight. (This is HUGE because she's been fighting us 2-3hrs. everynight going to sleep!!!) I put her in bed with Daddy just for closer monitoring (he wakes up alot) & I've heard in there talking & crying (normal) off and on, so I'm pretty sure she's okay... Scared me silly though!!! :(

She's been great all day! :) I do have to laugh though, for the first time in nearly a month, two days in a row... both nap & bedtime have been EASY. She has been fighting us for 2-3hrs. EVERY night & for a long time at nap too... but the last two days all 4 sleep times she has gone RIGHT to sleep!!! I don't know if it's related, but I'll take it! :)

Thanks again everyone!
