Moms who know Phoenix

My sister lives in Glendale. She has a 7 year old son. Anyway I was talking to her last night and she is so sad and so overwhelmed and partly because she says she has no friends. I gave her some suggestions for where to go and how to reach out to other people so she could make friends, but it's hard because I don't know Phoenix as well as I used to. Is there a mom's board there that she could join...a mom's group or something. The other thing I think she would beinterested in is any sort of natural health board or heart patient board. I think this is actually where a lot of her anxiety comes from lately. She has always been a heart patient, but as she has gotten older there have been other health issues that have popped up to complicate matters.

She has had a hard time finding a doctor to take her concerns seriously. I told her she might want to invest one good visit with a naturopath or holistic doctor (not giving up her cardiologist or anything) so that they can try to connect some of the dots. She has a lot of specialists right now and they only focus on one thing it seems and we have a feeling that her symptoms are actually connected in the big picture. Just thinking a holistic doctor might be able to see the forest for the trees on some of this and help point her in a better direction. Her current doctors keep treating her the same way and she has had no improvement with some of her offbeat symptoms. She feels not listened too and as though her life may be over soon. She said she wants to know what's wrong before they figure it out in an autopsy later. Anyway...I just think she could use some connections in Phx for both the mom side of her/emotional side and for the health issues too. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Has she tried the MOMS club? They have them all over I think. I joined the one here in Sugar land.

We are moving back to PHX in three weeks! There is a DAM organization out there and Ilynnegrl knows more about it. I think it's called PHXMOMS or something like that. We are moving to the Central Corridor, so about 30 minutes from Glendale. My FIL is a Doctor out in Sun City--maybe he can help. I will ask him if he knows of any docs that she might have better luck with. How many children does she have and how old are they?

Yes, I do live here and I can relate to some of what she is saying about how hard it is to meet people. Unfortuantely, there really is not a whole lot to do with kids when it's so hot. You would think that this city would have that figured out, but they don't. There is MOMs club. I've met someone who is on that board and loves it. I haven't joined. PhoenixMommies.com is the other board mentioned. It's similar to this, but I'm just not as connected to it, so I can't really speak to if she will find what she is looking for. There are regular playdates, though, as well as it being a nice place to check in, like DAM. It's relatively new, so not nearly as many members, but it seems like new people join every day. I hear lots of moms out here complain about the same thing of how hard it is to meet people.

As for the health piece, I think your idea of a holistic practioner is a good one, to connect all the dots. I don't have any resources for that though. From a medical standpoint, however, Banner Estrella hospital, which is in Glendale at the 101 and Thomas, is a very new hospital. It is 98% digital and is a flagship hospital for Banner where lots of physicians go to train because they have the latest and greatest of everything. Perhaps there is a resource there for her.

You are welcome to have her contact me, however, since my kids are so much younger, she may not be interested in playdates.
