Paid off the van today!

I know we have quite a few Dave fans here so I wanted to share :) We started our debt snowball in December of last year. I just made the final payment on our van - 10 months ahead of the expected payoff date. So far this year we've paid off 10K in debt. :banana I know we must be doing it right because we get teased for eating beans and rice ;) My DH has really gotten on board and after a brief excitement about paying off the van he looked at me and asked what the next debt was and how long until payoff. He's picked up extra hours at work and I've learned the magic of coupons. The financial part is fantastic but the fact that this common goal has brought us even closer together is an even bigger reward.

We don't do Dave Ramsey, but we did pay off our cars early. It's a GREAT feeling! Now, we're working on paying off our home in 13 years instead of 30. I KNOW that it would make better financial sense to put the money in the market somehow, but we're going for the house first. We pay ourselves first anyway... so we're saving money. We contribute the max to hubby's 401k (well, the max for match, anyway, not 15%)... then we contribute to our money market acct each month, the kid's college accounts, and our savings accounts, and a yearly maxed out IRA for each of us. If we get this house paid off in 13 years (just got the mortgage last summer, so it's less than a year old), that means no mortgage when our first goes to college. YEA! That moolah can help finance her college, too, if need be.

BTW, what's a good recipe for beans? I'm serious...

:bag I'm a horrible cook, I usually just use beans straight from a can. We do a lot of chili (stocking up on hamburg when it's 99 cents a lb). Sometimes just black beans, rice and some cheese. I really should look into something more exciting :lol Honestly though, the best thing I did was start shopping sales and using coupons. That cut our grocery bill in half and we still get to eat pretty well.

AshV - Sound like a great plan. It's such a nice feeling to have a long range goal and see it coming to life!
