weed control?

Ok, our lawn is an absolute mess of weeds. Any ideas on how to kill the weeds without loading our lawn with toxic chemicals? I know squat about lawn care.... :rolleyes

Actually, they're pretty little purple "wildflowers". I think they're kinda nice looking, but my neighbors aren't too thrilled that they've been spreading throughout the neighborhood. Some of the people don't have the same aesthetic tastes regarding the pretty purple flowers. :rolleyes

And then there are some green weeds that just HURT to walk on. I wish I knew what these suckers were called!
