jillepooh 08-23-2007 Thursday, 10:45 PM How often do you get a physical or blood work?
I get full blood work taken about every 18 months?
I think it's the best way to catch something before it goes to far.
We just found out my best friends Dad has Stage 4 Cancer. He never goes to the doctor and got me wondering if that is common.
My husband's last physical was in Feb. 2006. I told him he needs to go again and he gets irratated with me and says no he just had one.
So what do you recommend?
Petunia 08-23-2007 Thursday, 10:52 PM I do it once a year. Pap smear, physical (blood work), skin check...heck if it can be CHECKED..I'll FIND IT!! =)
Shannon 08-23-2007 Thursday, 10:57 PM This is probably bad, but if my OB/GYN doesn't check for it, pretty much never.
My only other dr appts are if I'm sick.

sebo'smom 08-24-2007 Friday, 12:15 AM I normally go once a year...but I don't have a doc here yet so it'll probably be more like 18 months this year.

:yeah I'm probably going to jinx myself, but I haven't been to my regular dr in over 18 mos. I do go to the chiro about every 5-6 weeks & that's usually about the time when I'm getting congested & starting with some dull headaches so it helps my back, nose & ear congestion, headaches & whatever ache I'm feeling at the time. :thumbup
The last time I was sick I did ask about blood work & he said to just fast one night & come in to have a blood draw, but I just don't think to do it. My dh hasn't had a physical in awhile either. I know we should.

:yeah I actually did go for the first time in 5 years this week because I was wanting to have my skin checked- I had a bump pop up that wasn't going away and I started to worry about all the times I went out in the sun and got burned. :thumbdown
Jackie 08-24-2007 Friday, 08:45 AM :yeah to shannon
Jr hasn't been to a doctor in atleast 5 years :(

Shannon 08-24-2007 Friday, 09:09 AM Y'all are making me feel a bit better (granted, we all probably should go to the doctor, but at least I'm not the only one). ;)

:yeah DH goes every year since it's convenient for him. There's a clinic near his office and he doesn't have to schedule around the kids.
Shirelle 08-24-2007 Friday, 01:15 PM Another :yeah to Shannon. I hardly ever go. I'd been thinking I'd had a pap after Andy was born, but now I'm thinking maybe it's been a lot longer than that! Probably around the time I got pg with him. I can't recall that I've ever had a physical :bag . I have been thinking about it though, and I might go get one before too long. I definitely need a pap--both my mom and g-ma had cervical cancer.
Deena 08-24-2007 Friday, 01:20 PM 1x yr (pap) and was going 1x a yr for a regular physical until I had to wait almost 2 hours for my internist (need to find a new dr.!). I think men usually put off going to the dr unitl something is really bothering them (at least that's been my experience w/ my husband).

:yeah
I don't even have a GP... If I get sick I just go to the friendly neighborhood clinic... I really need to get on it though, it never hurts to be checked over.
Does anyone know if you just call a GP & ask for a physical or what? The last time I tried that (at least 5 yrs ago) the girl told me they don't "do" physicals for adults, so I never tried again.
jillepooh 08-24-2007 Friday, 11:20 PM I think everyone did a :yeah to Shannon.

See this is my fear, the whole husband putting things off.
How many sick people could have caught it if they just went sooner?
Thanks for everyone's honesty!
