Is this your doctor?

In my search for an OBGYN on my insurance list, I've uncovered the following docs. If you've used them or heard anything about them, please let me know!!

@ Health Central Women's Care:
P. Clay Alexander
Elise Harper
Alan Greenberg
Tracy Elliott

Dr. Charles Downey (solo)

They all deliver at Richardson Regional, Centennial in Frisco, and Baylor Garland. Anyone have any opinions of these hospitals? Baylor Garland and Richardson Regional both have lower C-section rates than the state avg., but Richardson Reg. doesn't have a NICU--they have neonatologists on staff and a special care nursery, but Baylor Garland is just down the street w/ a NICU, so I guess it isn't such a big deal. Centennial's c-section rate is higher than avg., but it was based on only 48 births (it was a brand new hospital during their last reporting year), so those numbers can be statistically skewed.

Your thoughts or feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!

I see Dr. Harper and I LOVE HER!!!! I drive to Frisco from way out here just to see her. She assisted on my first son's delivery and I loved her so much I switched. She delivered my 2nd son. I cannot say enough great things about her.

Oh and a side note....my first son was c-section and I really wanted a VBAC with 2nd son. Dr. Harper supported my choice 100%!!! It didn't end up that way, but that was my choice and she was still cool with letting me VBAC if that is what I had wanted.

That's good news! She looked good on paper, but it is always nice to have a "personal referral," KWIM??

Anyone else??

While I haven't had direct experience with him, I've heard many good things about Dr. Downey, professionally from my peers.... as well as from a few moms on this board.

I had a client like Dr. Harper's bedside manner, but they wanted a vaginal birth and had a c-s... so I can't speak to how she is in a vaginal birth situation.

Dr. Greenberg's bedside manner was fine until my client wanted to go unmedicated, and asked questions and then it chilled, she said.

Dr. Downey is a good choice if you want to have a VBAC or an unmedicated birth in general, in the hospital. Now, it's not like he's going to hand it to you on a platter- that is not what the default is, BUT, if you want it and are willing to work for it, he will work with you and the experiences I have had with him and heard about him were largely positive.

:thumbup Great way to phrase that. I will have to use that one.

I am currently seeing Dr. Elliott. I really like her so far. I'm attempting a VBAC and she's been very supportive. I'm due in 8 weeks so hopefully it will work out that way. Their office seems to be doing more and more VBAC's at Centennial now.

I used Dr Alexander for Tressa. He is nice. I didn't use him again because I had a bad experience with the hospital, he has changed hospitals!! I cant tell you about VBAC or anthing. I was induced, but I was a week late.
Dr. Downy is a personal friend of ours. We go to the same church. I would think he would be easy to talk to and respectful of your wishes. I personally will never use him! LOL! I don't want my ob/gyn being a friend at church!!

Dr. Alexander was my OB with Sofia. He is nice; a bit strange. No complaints about how he handled my pregnancy, although if you want to go natural, he's probably not your best choice. I went into my pregnancy planning a natural birth and wound up with a C-section, which was not his fault, but he started talking about pitocin and epidurals the minute my water broke. I am probably not going to see him anymore because I feel like he talks AT me instead of TO me, plus, the last time I had an appointment, the woman who checked me out was really rude (which had never happened to me at Health Central before). I hear good things about Drs. Harper and Elliot, though I've never met them.

Centennial is a great place to have a baby--the staff was absolutely wonderful, and the facilities are spanking new, clean, and modern. I was very impressed.

Good luck with your search!

I don't know anything about those docs, but this thread got going earlier with a conversation more about Baylor Garland and Baylor Dallas. Maybe it'll help? :)

I am seeing Dr. Harper tomorrow because Dr.Elliot is on her vacation. But I heard great "reviews" about them :) that's what made my decision.
I'm going to Centennial this year but I went to Presby of Plano with my other two and I hear those have high c-section rates as well. I'm sure it all has something to do with having the choice of a c-section now-a-days too.

Dr. Harper delivered my son. My husband and I both love her! She has an excellent bedside manner, and is also very knowledgable and skilled. Good luck!

I went to Health Central OB GYN, but saw a different doctor. He was awesome and recommended by my family dr. I delivered at Baylor Garland and LOVED it! My delivery nurse was phenomenol and my day nurse after delivery was awesome too! They made me feel really comfortable and offered a lot of useful information! I loved them so much I wrote up a referral for their employee program on how great they were!
