Silly question about water breaking and swimming.....

I was thinking of taking Madison swimming a bit this morning before the rain comes, but I started wondering.....what if my water breaks IN the water and I don't realize it? Will the chlorine hurt the baby?

I know, probably a dumb question.....and something I won't have to even worry about, but......

I think you'd be able to feel it even when you're in the water. Because it's a different sensation when the water is actually coming out of you than just being in the water. I could be full of crap, but that's what I thought. :)

it would prob be a warm rush too? Prob somewhat colored so you could see it? Mine was broken by the dr so im not too sure on the sensation of it doing it on its own...but if it happens, just get out. :)

Most women realize it, even if they are in the water... be it a birthing tub, or elsewhere.

And no, the chlorine won't be going up there, so you'd be OK... Although I wouldn't advise hanging out and birthing in a chlorinated pool. ;)

Thanks for the info!!!! Good to know, although now the dark clouds have rolled in. :(

But Cori, bummer on not being able to birth in my neighborhood swimming pool. :lol

Amniotic fluid should be clear though, unless there is meconium (right?). So don't expect colored water to come flooding out of you. :giggle

Yeah, Teri, mine (with Madison) was a bit green b/c she had meconium. But anyway, I felt it GUSH with her, so I know what it feels like. But I wasn't sure if I'd lose that sensation in the water. Ya know?

LOL, yall are crackin me up. I had my water broken, but i distinctly remember telling my dr "Oh wow, you are SO RIGHT. You CANT mistake that for anything else, can ya?!" It was SOOO *hot* (not even warm, HOT, uncomfortable hot) and was a huge rush and all of a sudden my stomach didn't feel as tight/full. But b/c it was broken for me they broke it right at the bottom which pretty much drained it from the way i understand it, and sometimes peoples water can break high and cause just leaking.

I did water aerobics up till the week logan was born and this always worried me but I was assured that I would feel it.

It was bizarre for me - I was laying in bed and heard a POP sound. My husband thought I was looney. I stood up and could feel that I was about to start leaking so I waddled into the bathroom. Once I sat down, there was a slight gush but nothing huge so my hubby, still thinking I'm looney, said I probably just had to pee. I knew it wasn't pee because my bladder wasn't involved. I made him take me to the hospital anyway and was in labor an hour later.
With my daughter, I just had major contractions, my water never broke. When they opened me up they said the bag was bulging so I'm sure it would have broken soon.

Not a dumb questions at all, I've wondered the same thing myself! My waters have never broken on their own so I wasn't sure if you'd be able to tell or not. I am :lol at the image of you birthing in the neighborhood pool though!

I'm sure your neighbors are glad for those clouds today. :lol My water broke both times with mine. First was when we were walking the halls since my contractions were stronger while walking, by the nursery too, and it just felt like I was leaking, no gush. The second time I had my epidural, I was lying on my side and it was like I had gas, but felt a pop and called a nurse in and she said it sure did.

Every time I swim laps I wonder about that. (Not for me -but if it has happened, if you'd know etc.)
