Wanting to borrow a dog crate.

We have totally lost our minds and, last night, got a 3 month old puppy. The previous owner was starting to crate train her. We really don't want to go that route, but think it might be helpful right now, for night time, while we are working on bladder control. Because we only plan to use it for a few months, I hate to buy one. Does anyone have a mid-size crate that we could borrow for a couple months?

TIA

I think my crate is on the small side. What kind of dog is it?

You may find that you love the crate. Henry was absolutely attached to his "box" and would go in there on his own all the time.

She's a Great Dane, but she's only 10 weeks old so she's still small. If we do end up keeping a crate for her, we will eventually need a large one. I hate to buy a smaller one for such a short time.

I have a collossal Great Dane crate, it has a divider in it to make it smaller for a puppy and it will grow with her until she's full size. It's in our garage right now. It's wire and HUGEEEEE.

Also, from about 5 months to 12 months, you're in for a giant crazy devil dog stage. You'll be GLAD you crate trained her. Trust me :lol

OMG....yeah, you need a room for that.
We don't have a crate for our Greyhound because of the size of it.

I can't help you, I'm on a crate hunt myself.
But congratulations on your new baby! :dog

Crazy puppy adopters. :giggle

eta: we were hesitant about crate training at first- but our big guy loves his crate. It really is nice for them, being "den animals." It's not like a human would feel being locked in a box. :lol
Our little guy is not so crazy about the crate- but he is not so crazy about going potty outside, so has to like the crate if we're not here. :rolleyes

Also, congrats on your new addition! Post a picture!!! What color is she?

Be sure to get her vaccinated and spayed, distemper and parvo are going around like crazy right now. If you have any more dane questions just let me know. Also, as soon as she's vaccinated and old enough, get her into a training class. Petsmart has a good one!

Good luck!!!

I have to speak for crate training. ;) Our two love their beds. They only go in at night, but when I say "Bed time" they RUN to their kennels, get in and lay down. The only time they're eager to get out is to go potty. :)

Our dog love her "room" to. She goes and lays down during the day, without being told to. When I say "go to bed" she does. I was a little against it too at first, but she really seems to like it. We leave it open during the day and she goes in and out. She had to lay beside it one time because the cat was in it.:giggle

Our crate is not that big, but I was another that was very hesitant about crate training - so much that we didn't do it with our lab mix (HUGE mistake). Our terrier loved his crate!! We always knew when he did something b/c he would go into his crate. It was a lot faster to train him than our first dog without the crate.

She's had her shots and has been microchipped. We will definitely get her spayed in a few months. We're going to Petsmart in a few hours and I plan to talk to them about classes. I'm ready to do it ASAP! She seems really smart. She's not quite 3 months and is going to the door when she has to go out. However, she did, also, stand right in front of me in the kitchen and pee :lol. Like I said, we are totally crazy for doing this, but sometimes you just gotta say, "Why not?!"

When I pm'd you, before we went to see her, we had agreed that we were just going to look and not make any decisions right then. So much for that. An hour later she was in our car headed home :lol.

He, he! She is great! Can't wait to meet her & black with a white chest to boot! Did you decide on a name?

We're calling her Lexi, unless we come up with something we like better. She looks exactly like our last dane, which I thought was going to be really hard for Kim, but she was the one who really wanted her.

I recall you saying that. Maybe the color made her more drawn to Lexi - although I have a feeling that whatever color she had been, you would have come home with her. So fun....

It sounds like you already know alot about the breed, but I was just going to say that my sister has 2 great danes (Ricky and Lucy) and they are crate trained. They were really easy to train and love their crates. I have a huge dog (Great Pyrenees) and when we adopted him we told the Pyrenees people we were going to crate train him. They said that GP's don't like crates and it would be almost impossible to do it. Well, we tried and they were right...:lol We had the huge wire crate and he would escape. But, I wish it would have worked! Good luck!

Our last dane slept under the covers, in bed with us and we are NOT going that route again. I'm not opposed to the crate for sleeping, I just don't want it to be used every time we leave the house. I want, when she can be trusted, to have free range. Partly because I like that for her, but also because we want her to protect the house and there's not much a dog can do when locked in a crate.
