Thanks, everyone, for all your help with helping us decide whether or not to get a dog and what kind of dog to get. We ended up falling in love with the hound mix at Operation Kindness. :D

He is the absolute sweetest dog. :love Housetrained, gentle, playful, good with our cats, great with the girls. We are in love with him already. But, he needs a name!

Oh he is so cute!! He looks a bit like the dog my family got when I was 14. He was the best dog ever!!!! I'm not good with dog names, we stuck with the ones our dogs had when we adopted them.

Be careful about letting the kids name him. I had a student once with a dog named Wheel Of Fortune. They called him Wheel for short.

He looks a lot like Chuck from dooce.com
http://www.dooce.com/archives/daily_photo/

He looks like a wonderful dog! Enjoy him!

Well, considering our dog was named Hookempoocher, I'm not sure you would want any of my suggestions. We called her Hookie for short.

He looks like a Rex or maybe Duke.

Bandit

I don't know, that's the first name that came to mind. Isn't that from a TV show or something?

Aw, he is so cute! I want to pet him so much!

Name suggestions: Slugger - thats all I got - its what my nephew wanted to name their new dog but they went with Sarge (more than 1 kid had a say & Captian was the previous dog that had passed away from old age :( ) but I thought Slugger was a GREAT name!

Congrats on your new addition to your family!

Todd says he doesn't want a cutesy name (he didn't get a vote in our cats' names- Pixie and Boo, so I probably should let him have a say in this name :lol). He wants something "real", like Max (but Ashton didn't like Max).

I keep calling him Buddy since he doesn't have a name, yet. His name was Hennessey at Operation Kindness, but we want to change it.

Susan

Hennessey...I should say so! That's all you need...two precious little girls screaming for Hennessey. :lol

:lol:lol
We had a dog that came to us named Tequila when I was a kid. My parents didn't want to change it since she was older, but they were embarassed to tell their friends her name.

I like the "Fred" suggestion.

Nicole

Woohoo! He really is housetrained. :bounce They said he was, but I was still nervous. But, every time I take him out, he goes straight out to use the bathroom. :)

But, he is apparently more comfortable here now, and he's chasing my cats. :p What do I do to discourage that? My poor cats are traumatized. :lol I know they'll get used to each other, but is there anything I can do to help?

He is adorable!
Congratulations!

Most of our pets get named after favorite characters... Emmitt (Smith), (Princess) Fiona (Shrek), and Jack-Jack (Incredibles).

Do the girls have any male characters they like- with a "real" name? :lol

He definitely looks like a Rocky to me.

My parents have a dog named Kitty. It is the best name for a (girl) dog. How about Squirrel?

I also like Gus, Frank and Jimmy. I like people names for dogs, though, hence my Maggie and Gretchen.

:hug Aww, he is precious. He looks a bit like the dog I had when I was growing up - her mother was a beagle and her dad was unknown. Her name was Sweetie Pie. :lol I like the name Fred or Freddie for your dog. You might watch him for a while and see what his personality is like. I like Buddy too.

Nicole

Baxter is my maiden name. :lol Maybe I could tell my family I was passing down the name. ;)

I like Harley and Bentley. :) I'll see what Todd says when he wakes up.

And, about the squirt bottle- I'm assuming I squirt the dog and not the cats? :lol I'll try that today- it's gotten pretty bad. If the cats are out, I have to pretty much hold his collar, or he'll take off after them. He's very smart (already knows how to sit and is definitely housetrained), so hopefully he'll catch on quickly that it's not okay to chase the cats. When he first saw them, he didn't really react to them, so I hope that we can get him back to that.

He slept in the crate all night without a problem. :) I heard him whine twice (12:30 and 2:30), but it wasn't much, and he stopped within just a minute or two. Took him out this morning, and once again, he went straight out to go potty. :upthumb
