Cleaning Questions

I am trying to make myself dust today and have actually found some recent posts on cleaning so I'm curious...

How often do you clean?

When it comes to dusting, I try to do every other week (there's no way I can do every week; hate it too much :lol ), but it winds up being once a month realistically. I just hate doing something that winds up looking like I never touched it a few days later.

I do laundry every day - hang up clothes straight from the dryer and put clothes to be folded in the basket. I only fold clothes once a week, though. I MIGHT fold them twice a week if we have company coming over and I need the basket put up. My grandma used to fold clothes right out of the dryer too. She'd lie them out on her bed and fold them right then and there. But, I'm not that disciplined.

I try to sweep every day or every other day, but I only mop once or twice a month. I just hate getting the mop bucket out and having to move everything.

The kitchen??? It just STAYS dirty!!! It's probably my weakest area. I HATE cleaning the kitchen!!! I am so undisciplined...I can't make myself clean up after dinner each night. I get the food put up and the dishes rinsed, but if the dishwasher is full/clean, I am too lazy to load/unload. Sean normally helps me unload lately and then I reload it. Handwashing? I despise that!!! I have to do that today too, though, because we have some bottles that need to be washed.

Sean started doing the bathrooms when I was pregnant and has kept it up for me since that's a little difficult to do with a 2 year old and a newborn. Yes, I have a wonderful DH!!! :)

So, what's your "cleaning schedule?"

Well having a house on the market we have to stay pretty clean but mainly I keep the main areas clean and keep up with the laundry. I have a housekeeper help me with the other unfun stuff every 3 weeks...that is my treat from DH since he is gone so much

Wow - I'm impressed by the level of clean!

My house is just about disasterous. I do laundry a couple times a week, clean up toys every day, and do some surface cleaning. Other than that, I let things go. DH does bathrooms, too. But, only because I won't. He's the one that gets them yucky, so I think he should clean them.

I'm having Jack's bday party here in about six weeks, so I'm about to start cleaning like we're having company. Dusting, mopping, vaccuming, all the stuff that should be getting done, but isn't.

:yeah Except not so many toys right now, and I sweep every other day. The kitchen we do 2x a day - once is me during the daytime and the other is everyone at night. I do laundry constantly, and have to keep up after our many pets and their various aromas and dander, etc.

Dusting in this house is an intensive thing - we live in an older home, and have those pets again, and hardwoods, etc. So I have a vacuum in one hand and feather duster in the other, pledge waiting for the furniture.

Floors are my big thing, I guess, because I like to go barefoot.

My house is pretty much a disaster but here is what I "try" to do.
Laundry...every couple of days(I am so far behind it is ridulous)
Vacuum..every day(usually every 3 days)
Dust...1x a week(usually once a month)
Bathrooms 2x a week(usually once a week, if that)
Bathroom mirrors...once a week(usually once a month)
Kitchen..3x a day (I actually am pretty good about this but sometimes it is 2x)
Sweep..1x a day(this gets done by one of the kids after dinner
Mop...1x a week(usually doesn't happen this often, I am thinking about getting a smaller mop so I don't have to haul out the mop bucket)
Put toys away...all day(at least 2xs)
Beds..made every day(mine and dh is the girls are some days)
Litter box..1x a day(also done by oldest dd, its her cat, she feeds, waters and scoops)
I need to be better about this, especially bathrooms and floors.

:yeah Except no litter box here and I have 2 dogs so when it is warm, I will do poop patrol twice a day.

My cleaning lady comes every other week so on the weeks she comes, I only have to do bathrooms once, mopping once and no dusting:banana .

I also limit the men in this house to use of 2 bathrooms to limit the mess;) .

Your not bad Krisinda!!! You may spend your time other ways. For example I try to do at least on or two loads of laundry a day...just so I don't get behind. I hate doing bathrooms but I try and do them once a week. As for dusting, vacuuming, mopping....I just do it when it needs to be done. I usually have to vacuum at least once a day...cause I have an 11 month old that will eat anything he finds on the floor. Now the kitchen is a different story...it seems like I do two or three loads of dishes a day..but that is because I stay at home with the kids. I try to keep the house clean...but I also try to balance my time with my kiddo's too! Like I read to them, do crafts, and bake goodies with them...I think that is more important then cleaning up every spec I see. So just find a balance...don't stress....life is way too short!

My house (apt) is a disaster! But heres what I strive for

Kitchen- straighten every day, dishes when theres enough for a load in the dishwasher - deep clean every other month or so (fridge/stove/microwave), mop every 2 weeks or when its needed
Living room- straighten every day
Dining area/office- clean about once a week (try to pick up stuff off floor every day)
Bathroom every other week or so for the front bathroom. DH makes the bathroom in our bedroom dirty so I make him clean it every once in a while and Ill deep clean it every couple months
Kids bedroom- try to pick it up once a week-- nobody plays in there, its just a sleep/get ready room really, sheets changed whenever its needed
My bedroom- My GOAL is to do it once a week-- but ummm yeah its never clean.
Laundry- I want to do a load a day- but I dont. Its more like one day a week we throw it all in the wash all day long and then it sits in baskets the rest of the week- Im SO backed up on folding its rediculous.
Vacuum- when I feel like it (once or twice a week, sometimes more)
Closets- I hate that my closets are neglected. My goal is to clean them out once a month. I am a "Closet" neat freak- meaning they have to be organized or Im nuts.

Let's see, laundry once every week (I have to Laundromat, but my mom is getting a w/d soon. yay!) I loooove doing laundry, I'd do it all the time if I could. It calms my nerves, and I love being able to choose from ANYTHING I want to wear.
Vacuum- once or twice a week. Bad, i know.
Kitchen- constantly. Like 5 or 6 times a day. ( Scotty loves coffee)
Bathroom- twice a week
Mirrors- my closet doors are florr to ceiling mirrors, 2 panels in Hayden's room and 4 in ours. once a week
Mop- once a week
Make beds- every day
Straighten up all rooms- every day
Toys- constantly
Littler box- daily. i almost hate my cats because they poop, and if i go more than one day, it's too disgusting and i can't handle it.
dust- once every two weeks. that's horrible, too.

But everyone is different! Some of us just have more time, and some of us have more to clean. Some of us have really messy (lazy?) husbands. it all just depends.

Laundry - nearly every day. I hang, put away, and fold immediately upon removing from dryer. I do probably 8-9 loads a week.

Bathrooms - once every other week-ish. DH usually does this.

Sweep - every evening

Mop - way too rarely. HATE IT! It's a giant, involved chore, that doesn't seem to get my floor (flagstone and ceramic tile) very clean anyway.

Vacuum - once week-ish

Dust - once a month-ish. Takes me about 15 minutes to do the whole house. What all do you dust?!?

Kitchen - throughout the day every day. A dirty kitchen makes me cranky.

Well, I had a great system at our home in Rowlett based on thirds.

Every day the kitchen was cleaned (still the case here).

Then I cleaned the kitchen floor, dining room, living room (1st third) one day. Then the office, guest bathroom & nursery (2nd third) one day. Then the 1st third again. Then the master bedroom & bathroom for the 3rd third. Then back for the first third. Thats 5 days/week & I didnt clean (except the kitchen) on weekends. DH did the bathtubs for me on weekends.

I found if you keep up with it - its really not a lot of work. I didnt have to dust everything every time I did the 1st third for example. And the whole house was cleaned on a daily basis.

Laundry - as needed. Usually over a 2 day period. I fold & put away as it comes out of the dryer.

Now, I dont have a strategy, I just clean as needed. We are just in a rental so I dont care as much & its still mostly clean most days. Once we buy a house Ill be more organized.

Cleaning used to be an obsession with me, but not anymore. Our home is just clean enough to be able to find things, but not so clean that it doesn't look lived in.

Having spent a lot of time cleaning in the past, I now realize that it is not necessary to do it so much and that there are far more important things to do with my time, like read to my youngest or plant a flower or write a note to a friend, etc.

I will never regret not cleaning. I will regret not planting flowers.

I just finished cleaning our apt with the help of my hubby.

I used to be pretty obsessed with cleaning , once I got the place in shape I would have close to a mental breakdown if I came home and found one shoe out of place. Between having all the energy slapped out of me by my thyroid disorder and a crawling baby , I really have loosened up.

Now I am just trying to learn to keep it decent and not looking like a museum.

I'm not a SAHM, but here is my cleaning routine:

:washlaundry Once a week

:vacuum Once a week

:dust Twice a month, if I'm being good
:dishes DH does the dishes each night before bed

:showerOnce a week for a full cleaning, but I wipe down with clorox wipes throughout the week. (BTW, I shower every day, I am just using this as my "bathroom" smilie)

:sweepI sweep the bathrooms whenever I clean them, the kitchen gets it sweeped when I notice it needs it, probably weekly

:mop Maybe once a month, or if I see it needs it sooner.

:windows Twice a year, or if I notice something yucky on them.

:iron We each do our own ironing in the mornings as needed.

:lawn Starting at this time of year DH does the yards once a week.

I'm having fun with smilies today :D

I could never keep up with you. But I do have to change the litter box every other day. My cats are picky and if I don't then they let me know by pooping elsewhere.
