One night when my oldest daughter was 2 y.o., she was nursing and this came to me. It is in its original from. I haven't changed it since I first wrote it because I'm lazy about rewriting and because once I start the revisioning process I go through 30 or 40 versions of a piece before I'm through.
Sweet Embrace
Bodies intertwined
not ready to part after so long embraced
sweet kisses brush my cheek
as she whispers "I love you, Mommy,"
and drifts off to sleep
together, how perfectly we fit
just as when she was in
mother nature's mitt
And in the morning I shall wake
with sweet butterfly kisses on my face
The rays of sunshine
Captured in my angel's twines
Shall pierce my dreams
and make the heavens sing.
(My daughter nursed until she was almost 3 y.o. I was just as attached to doing it as she was.)
