Well I recently bought a sewing machine. My first project was a blanket for Ansleigh. I attached a picture. It's only part of it because it ended up being pretty big. Oh well, at least she'll be able to use the blanket for a couple of years. :) It's my first attempt so be gentle. :) I'm so excited. I made a blanket for my sister also (she's due with my FIRST EVER niece any day now) :)

Oh! Let me clarify something. Before y'all think I have some serious skills- which I DON'T!!! The fabric came embrodered (can't spell) like that, all I did was stich the edges and added the binding (for me it was quite a bit of work) :) I didn't want anyone to think I did all that detail work. Hopefully someday I'll be able to though. :)

great! isn't it fun? i got a sewing machine when nora was a baby, and i quickly became the master of the hooded fleece sweatshirt. that's still about the only thing i can make except square things. i'm good with square things lol. duvet colors, drapes, pillow cases and shams - i'm all over it. i also made no-sew fleece christmas blankets for each of the kids to use as huggers around the holidays, and they love them. they can't wait for us to pull down the christmas things so they can get their blankets. they're just green fleece squares, but you cut slits about 4" deep every 1", then tie a knot at the top of each strip of fringe. i slid some beads on noras before knotting it so we can tell them apart. you can also make pillow covers the same way. cut 2 squares of fleece about 4" larger on each side than the pillow. so an 8x8 pillow would need 2 16x16 squares of fleece. cut the 4" strips 1" apart around the edges of each square of fleece. set the pillow in the middle, then line up the strips and tie them together. i think it looks tacky with just one, but if you did a lot of them you could put together a cute little kid room.

I made a blanket like that while I was still pregnant w/ Taryn. I love it! It's got a big Hello Kitty on the front, and the back is a bunch of little Hello Kittys. They really do make for a good, warm, snuggley blanket. I took mine w/ me to the hospital when I had Taryn, and it made the whole hospital experience just a little more comfy, lol.

Those taggie blankets that go for about $30 bucks in the stores are pretty easy to make, also. I made a big one for Jared and I'll probably make another for the new baby. I've even thought about making them and selling them. It'd be a good way to earn a little extra cash.
