Astreia 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 10:37 AM Okay. I think I'll be okay... I think there is hope... :) Everything doesn't hurt quite as bad now. There are still some moments. We are having great diapers. This morning she only nursed on one side for 10 minutes and fell asleep. She never does that. I couldn't wake her up... Oh well. I'll try again in a few minutes. I just wanted to tell everyone a huge "THANK YOU" I feel better. I'm just taking it a day at a time. Today is a good day though. :)
Now if I could figure out how to use my Maya wrap.... :)
Also- when did you first leave home with the new baby? With Kieran I was paranoid and we didn't go anywhere for about 6-8 weeks...
Billie 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 10:53 AM Astreia, we went on a road trip 3 days after Nate was born! We were moving to Austin from CA for the summer for an internship and we drove the 24 hours in 2 days! We took Ela to SAMS club the day after she was born because she didn't fit into her newborn diapers when she was born (she weighed 10 lbs). And with Job I was still taking a class at the seminary when he was born so I took him with me 2 days after we left the hospital to a lecture class with 40 people in it (all of which had to come over and admire the little guy).
I go stir crazy in the hospital and I just CAN"T be confined to the house for more than a day or 2 without just going a bit crazy.
Cori 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 11:01 AM I'm so glad to hear things are going well with the nursing! Let us know if you need more help.
We took River to the arboretum when he was 2 days old. I carried him in the sling, and kept him close to me, but I figured with the good immune stuff in breastmilk, he was pretty well protected.
Astreia 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 11:03 AM I may need help with the Maya sling. I had it with Kieran but could never figure it out. I REALLY want to use it with Ansleigh though. How do you use the thing???
Krysta 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 11:50 AM I am SO glad to see your confidence! It only gets better!
I wish I were closer to you, I would help you with your sling. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it! (kind of like bf'ing!)
With a toddler and a clingy newborn- Whew! It was a lifesaver. 6 mos later, we are never without our sling!
Did your Maya come with a video?
On asksears.com there are some babywearing instructions.
Oooh, I wish I could help you more! Where do you live, anyway? PM me if you want.
Cori 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 12:06 PM Asteria, I have the video if you need, or I can stop by later tonight after Chris gets home from work.
PM me.
Shirelle 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 12:09 PM Good for you!!! You give me hope for being able to bf this next one! We took Ethan out to a park when he was three days old. I wouldn't worry about it if you are bfing.

dr-g 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 12:42 PM I'm so glad it's working out better for you. Each day will only improve. Good job for sticking with it. :)
Misty 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 12:46 PM Asteria here is a link that might help you!
I don't have the maya wrap (I have a kissasling) but they are pretty simular, I don't know how far you are to me, but I might be able to help you sometime or something???? I am actually thinking soon of doing classes to show woman how to used different types of slings, I just haven't organized everything yet.
Here are two sites I have found VERY helpful!
http://www.mamatoto.org/portalVBVS/desktopdefault.aspx
This one was the one I learned how to make a sling out of a sheet when I was at the shelter
http://www.willowbean.com/unpaddedslinginstructions.html
This one has great step by step instructions too!

Christina 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 03:05 PM Congrats on sitcking with it! I am glad that you have such a positive attitude about it. The ladies on here have been great with helping you!
bidetkitty 08-31-2004 Tuesday, 03:37 PM you sound much less stressed out, astreia - hooray! 10 minutes on one side is pretty good. it was a few weeks for each of my kids before they were able to nurse that long on both sides without falling asleep. as far as leaving the house, i have tried to wait a few weeks with each of my kids, and i didn't take them around lots of other children for a while. breast milk doesn't give immunity to all cooties, and a sick baby is no fun! how are YOU feeling? is she letting you get some sleep?
Maggie_K 09-01-2004 Wednesday, 02:41 PM Yeah! I am so glad. If you are getting plenty of diapers...that is such a wonderful reassurance.
When do you see your pedi?
Congratulations!
Astreia 09-01-2004 Wednesday, 02:42 PM I see the pedi on Sept 9th at 9:30am. Seems so far away but it's not...
Maggie_K 09-01-2004 Wednesday, 02:54 PM If you want a weight check, I think I could work something out...or perhaps one of the midwives or LC can help, too. I know that was great for us. Carissa would eat 7 minutes on one breast every 4 hours. I couldn't get her to do more and it drove me nuts...but she was gaining weight at a huge pace.
Let me know and I might be able to get one of the people from Baylor Garland's Pump Station to do a weight check for you.
Congratulation! :upthumb

Astreia 09-01-2004 Wednesday, 03:45 PM I'm definitely interested!!!! Yesterday was such a great day and this morning was good too- now I'm hurting. I feel huge... Ouch... :( When does that go away?
Maggie_K 09-01-2004 Wednesday, 04:09 PM It takes a while for your body to adjust. If you are still hurting after feeding, you can either pump and store, or get into a nice warm bath, relax, and hand express. If you pump, don't pump til empty. This is a supply and demand system..if you pump till you are empty...you will make more next time...ouch.
I am so glad you are doing well. I will call the pump station and see if they mind seeing someone who didn't deliver there...I don't think they will mind....but you never know...
