It has been a LONG time since I have posted.. Been really busy since my inlaws came.. and still homeschooling.. (til 3rd week of june now.. lol).. anyhow.. Thought to write up a birth story.. I posted it on Babycenter.. and thought to post here as well since there are some due to have a baby soon!... birth stories are ALWAYS great inspirations!! I know Cori's was (Thanks dear!!!).. hope everyone is good and I will try to read/post more often!...
On the 18th (sunday).. I woke up and did some cleaning around 5am.. had
LOADS of energy.. then went for a quick nap around 7 and then woke again
when dh woke up around 9am.. well, at that time I felt akward and started
having diareha really bad (tmi).. I blamed it on the burgers from the night
before.. and then noticed some contractions that were pretty close
together.. at that point (10am) I started timing them---they were 2-3
minutes apart.. I waited an hour and drank the water, laid down..etc.. they
were still coming and pretty strong at that.. well.. at that point i called
the dr and she told me to come in.. dh and i took two of our girls to bil's
house and took our 2yr old with us as dh did NOT believe that this is "it"
(he always denies labor).. well.. they checked the contractions and they
were consitant 2 min apart and then dr came and checked cervix and told me
that I am a 4 and baby is up REALLY high and that indeed this is "it" .. I
called my doula at that point and dh called his brother to bring mil to come
watch our little one..
Well, around 12.. (i THINK)the dr decided to break my water because the baby
was TOO high up and they were worried about a cord prolapse.. and also it
would get things moving since I was NOT in favor of Pitocin.. Sure enough
things got moving.. with each contraction my doula would do acupressure..
she did a REALLY good job with that.. I swear when dh touched me I wanted to
scream at him (and i did too).. lol anyhow.. I had maybe 4-5 MAJOR
contractions where I was losing control and at that point I wanted to
PUSH!.. the doctor came in and said.. nope. not yet.. still 6cm. then she
left.. well.. the very NEXT contraction I felt the urge to push and the
nurses yelled for the dr.. but the nurse ended up delivering the baby whilst
the dr was running in the room.. LOL.. Needless to say I went from a 6 to
a 10 in about a minute!.. I can still remember looking up at dh's eyes and
seeing shock.. LMAO!.. My doula was WONDERFUL and I HIGHLY recommend ANYONE to use one because you wont want you dh touching you if you are going all natural!.. and not to mention my doula was GREAT support!!!
Anyhow.. My Baby Boy was born at 4:12pm.. He weighed 6lbs 2oz and was 20" long .. he was due on the 11th of May.. but came 4wks early.. I am still in
shock by his length and God has really blessed him with that. My girls are
just in awe over him!..
I didn't think anything was wrong when he was born as he cried as normal..
and well.. about two hours later a neonatologist came to my room where I was waiting for my lil baby to come.. and told me the baby has RDS (respiratory distress syndrome) because his lungs are too immature and the labor was too FAST.. well.. that just broke my heart when they said he was in NICU..
Later that night.. I went to visit him in NICU.. he only had a candula on at
the time and an IV.. and well.. his chest was just working too hard
(retracting too hard).. I went back to my room.. started pumping the little
bit of colostrum that there was and bringing it every 2hrs to the NICU.. I
did this the second day as well.. At 3 am the day I was supposed to leave..
I decided to go to the NICU just to see him again.. and well.. they actually
let me change his diaper and then I held him for over an hour.. I cherish
that moment, really, i do.. I sat there and just stared at him and prayed..
Well.. then on Tuesday morning.. I got released, empty arms.. (my heart goes
to anyone who has to deal with this) and I just cried the way home
silently.. each day dh and I brought milk to him (those hospital grade
pumps are wonderful!) 2 or 3 times a day!.. at some point they had him on
CPAP and an IV was then in his little head.. cant help but kiss the spot
everytime I hold him.. they wouldnt let us hold him or anything at that
point as it would interupt the cpap.. days were merged with the nights..
and then friday came around and I saw he was moved to another floor.. a step up from the NICU .. and he was doing better.. they were just monitoring
him... sooooooooooo I got to nurse him for the first time that night!.. he
latched right on and I just cried.. again, will always cherish that moment
(and the first time he held my finger and dh 's at the same time in the
other NICU whilst nurse was changing him)..
I asked them if I could come for every feeding on Saturday and Sunday and
they said that would be fine.. I pretty much camped out at the hospital
walking to and fro up and down the elevators to see him, and nurse him every
3 hours and then going back down to eat some lunch or breakie or dinner..
.. it was tiring, but well worth it!.. on Sunday they told me he could go
home.. I am thinking they saw how persistant I was on saturday and they saw i was back on sunday early morning to nurse him more.. After a few tests
(carseat test and hearing test).. and the circ.. they sent him home at 4pm..
ONE WEEK OLD!.. I was thrilled when they said he could come home.. I phoned dh and told him to please vacuum our house.. (he was sweet enough to steam vac it all!!)....
He had appt last week for 2wk checkup and he is 22" long and 6lbs 4ounces now... dr seemed concerned about weight--so must feed him more i guess.. hmmm everything else is good !!.. and I am just loving my little Prince!!! He is such a sweetie with his own little personality!
