Julia 04-14-2004 Wednesday, 11:36 PM I don't know anything about Curves, I do know a mom that goes there and is happy with it. It would not work for me because I need daycare. I go to Lady of America on Custer/15th - they have several locations. They have a great daycare area with monitors in the workout room so you can watch the kids - this works well for me I think since mine are older and past seperation anxiety. We all love going and we go for an hour + a day five days a week. The website is www.ladyofamerica.com where you can find locations. And it's reasonable too - I paid 300.00 for one year fee and that includes the cost of the daycare for 1.5 hrs a day. I go with a group of three other moms and we keep each other motivated. I'm going on week nine now and I'm very excited about my results, I've only lost three pounds, but I have lost several inches, my clothes are fitting fabulously, and most of all, I feel great (that was my motivator). I LOVE the Pilates. I think it's great to do something for yourself and for your health, so good luck whatever plan you decide on. twoplusone 04-27-2004 Tuesday, 04:59 PM Kelly, What did you decide to do about Curves? I have been wanting to join since Rebecca was born but like pp said there is no daycare which Rebecca would not like anyway. I had figured with it only being a 30 minute workout that I would go when dh gets home but I am afraid that he will not get home in time and I would always miss going. I know someone who joined with their mother. They end up there for an hour. One of them watches the baby while the other does their workout and vice versa. Anyway, I was just wondering if you joined and how you like it. Kelly_B 04-27-2004 Tuesday, 07:07 PM Danielle, It's sooo funny you should ask..... I just joined Curves about 30 minutes ago!!! I didn't have time to go through the complete exercise program due to my babysitter (mom) could only sit for half an hour. So I'm going back tomorrow night once David gets home to do my first work out. Other than that I will probably be going in the morning while everyone is sleep or the moment David gets home at night. I normally get up around 6am for Katelin's first bottle. So, I'll put her back to sleep & go work out while David is home before he goes to work. I think the plan will work out great for me. I'll let you know how it goes... :) p.s. They did give me a discount once I explained I was a SAHM & really needed to lose weight. :) seebee 05-06-2005 Friday, 02:24 PM Drudging this up, because I was interested in more info if anyone has it. Price? I'm looking to start something, but funds are really limited around here at the moment. Michelle 05-06-2005 Friday, 02:38 PM I know it's too late, since you already joined, but here is my feedback anyway. I used to be a member of Curves (pre-baby). I liked it OK. I liked the fact that it was only 30 minutes. What I didn't like about it was the lack of variety. You do the same thing every time you go. So, I quit there and joined Lady of America in McKinney. Even though I have been very lazy the past, oh year, I do like the gym. There are so many different classes you can choose from, not to mention all the equipment you can use to work out on your own. They also have day care. Hope this helps! Elaine 05-06-2005 Friday, 02:42 PM I also belong to Lady of America (Plano) - I really like it although I, too, haven't been lately. Now that Preston is 3 months I plan on trying to go at least 3 times a week (they have child care at certain times of the day). I've never tried Curves but there is definitely something to be said for being done with your workout in 30 minutes :thumb The Cook 05-06-2005 Friday, 02:51 PM Beasleybear, Not sure what you are looking for the lifetime fitness in garland is great. The family swim time is also a nice bonus. Let me know if you have any questions about it. I go there and love it. seebee 05-06-2005 Friday, 04:06 PM I remember when Lifetime Fitness opened up, we got fliers from them. It's very close location-wise, but financially it's out of our budget. Probably all health clubs are at this point, but I was just curious what sort of fees these places charge. Cyndie 05-06-2005 Friday, 09:48 PM I am a former Curves member. The lack of variety and child care made it easy for me to go elsewhere. IMO Curves would be a great "maintaining" workout if you were already in the shape you wanted to be. I now belong to Lady of America and have been going 3 or 4 times a week after not going for months. I love the variety in machines, the classes offered and the child care. I think LOA now offers a month to month contract around $40 per month. Check with your local center if you are interested. Having a buddy to workout with has made all the difference in the world to me! COPA 05-09-2005 Monday, 07:57 AM [QUOTE=Cyndie]I am a former Curves member. I went after Owen was born and got pretty good results, but also got very bored very fast so it didn't last long. I belong to Bally's now and am pretty happy with it. I do a circuit training routine similar to curves, but since I'm at a full gym I can change it up when I want to and alternate with days doing strictly cardio. It just reduces the number of excuses I have to not go to the gym! |
