Fun plants that grow fast for toddlers to have interest in......

Hi!

Do yall know of any plants or flowers that grow fast (besides that chia pet thing) for toddlers to have interest in? I'm clueless about plants (obviously, since I have silk flowers in the bed surrounding our front tree! :)

My 2 yr. old collects acorns for her & daddy to plant together but it takes awhile for them to start sprouting. We plan on planting pumpkin seeds (yes, we still have our Halloween pumpkin) out in the yard since that grows fast. But I'd like something to keep in a pot either on the patio or in the house.

Beans are great, and they grow quickly. I think most preschool classes grow beans in a little glass or pot, just to watch it grow (in a glass, you can see the roots develop).

If you want the beans to grow tall and maybe produce, you could transplant the seedlings into a large pot and place a trellis into the soil to support vertical growth.

Of course, this time of year, you could plant a ton of different things, but I think this is pretty fun for kids, since they really do grow rampant.

HTH!

Beans and Sunflowers are both really quick!

All of my plants that I planted a little over a week ago have sprouted, most within 48 hours. The Erlene's Cotton is doing great!

Yep, green beans grow so fast you can almost watch them grow! I've got a bunch of them in the back yard just because I love the quick satisfaction of seeing them sprout and flourish. They are also very leafy and pretty, I think.
