If someone gave you $5000 to redo

a room in your house, which room would it be and why?

The kitchen is next on my list~

Mine would be patio! We are looking into getting our yards landscaped and I really want a patio cover but the is going to have wait because it is too much money to do it all at once. Hoping dh gets a wonderful bonus (and raise) in April!!!

I'd recarpet the living/dining/staircase if I could afford to. I'd also love to get a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of the house.

Master Bath. DH has been promising we would do it since we moved in. I can't shower back there because it is too small. There is this beautiful garden tube I personally have only used three times by myself (and no, not with DH, with one of the girls...once.) So I want to gut the tub, turn the shower into a closet and put in a HUGE shower stall where the tub was with shower heads on both sides, a bench, etc.

I would pick the guest room.. it is tooooooooooooooooo bland with old furniture in it (8yr old furniture and the cheapy kind too!)... We don't get many "guests" but it would be nice just to do it "up" in case we do..

i'd say either the playroom/b's room or the kitchen.... but given that i'm in an apt, i'll say playroom b/c i wouldn't spend that kinda money redoing THEIR kitchen ;)

I would spend that money to carpet my upstairs. I REALLY need new carpeting but it probably won't get done in 2006. There are a few other household projects that are higher on the priority list. It's gonna take us a long time and alot of money to fix up this house.

does it have to be ONE room lol I could probably do a few rooms with that much money... gotta love trading spaces I have learned SO much from that show. I could easily redue pretty much every room with 5,000...

I want new granite countertops...yup that'll just about use all the $5000....I guess that's it for me!

Furniture for the formal living room or artwork for assorted places in the house. I don't have enough furniture to fill up this place.

I put other. We're still renting but our house desperately needs a new paint job on the outside (I think the previous owner was drunk when he did it) and we need grass and landscaping. I would be so much happier renting with these things done.

I picked patio b/c 5k would just get me started on my kitchen! We bought our house knowing that every room needed to be updated. Of course we spend sooooo much time outide..5k would get me an arbor/trellis built so I'm not baking in the sun.

I said Living room because we need new furniture sooo bad. It's also really the room we spend most of our time in. I think it's important for that room to have a good vibe to it.

We'd probably add on to our existing home with the money. Dan wants a media room. When we bought this house, 3400 sq feet was way too much for just the two of us. Now, with Danny, we feel cramped. lol

We are actually getting bids starting next week. :)

WOw....I don't fee cramped with 3400 sf and there are SIX of us! I would use it to replace carpet to hardwood for as far as it would go.

Our bathroom is pretty much useless (the layout is awkward and it's not big enough for more than one person anyway) and our closet space is non-existent so I would definitely start there !!!

I would furnish our office. Right now, it has two Wal-Mart, "Insert Tab A into Slot A" desks, and Todd's is actually supported by a board that he nailed to the bottom b/c it was about to cave in.

It is the first room you see when you come in our house, and it's awful. We have to have 2 computers for the sake of our marriage, and I'd like to have one of those "Closets by Design" type places come out and custom build a desk that we could both sit at and work at our separate computers, cabinets above, filing cabinets, etc.

Then we need bookshelves, too. Right now, our books are overflowing the one little pitiful shelf we have, and then there are piles around the perimeter of the room.

I would also like to buy a small safe to put in our closet for pictures, valuable, important papers, etc.

I voted livingroom. New furniture, paint, etc.

I would spend the money on our back patio. It's about 600 square feet! The previous owner painted it with several layers of freakin' house paint. It made for a very slippery surface when wet. Both Riley and I (and friends) have busted our butts on it. I hired a guy last summer with one of those high pressure washers with 300 degree water but he was a total dud and only finished 2/3's of the patio. Since we won't live here forever I think we're looking to paint it with patio paint, but if we had our choice we would tile it. It's such a great space but the potential is just waiting to be unleashed!

i have been procrastinating giving my son a "real bedroom", i have an awesome construction truck room idea but i'm petrified to paint cause i think i'll mess it up. also dh has no job so money is not flowing real well right now so i'd do my son's room. so could i have the money please!!

Well, if we couldn't pay bills or put it away for someday actually *having* a house... ;) I wouldn't want to redo *their* apartment (like Jackie said lol) and even though all of our furniture is hand-me-downs, there's nothing wrong with them... Well our table is a card-table, but we don't have room in our 600ish sf apt. for a 'real' table... ;) SOoooo, I guess I'd say bedroom, only to give us a bigger bed since the 3 of us share a full-size, it would be nice to have a Queen at least - & if I'm really dreaming, King! lol :upthumb

Bedroom....because it's SO boring right now.

I would do my bedroom. I have never had real furniture in my room! Dh and I went looking yesterday and found some at Ashley that we may actually get!! $5000 would be way more than we need so I might retile the masterbath also. It isn't terrible just not my dream bath.

at this point I'd either redo our bedroom or start on the kitchen...those are the last two things on our list!
