will you live in the house your in now, forever?nicholle&w&p 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:01 AM just wondering how many of us plan to move or upgrade in the next couple of years..... Melissa 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:06 AM This is a starter house for us so we hope to move someday but if not then we will add onto this house. Nic&Kenna'sMom 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:20 AM and we've refinanced and made extra payments so we can actually pay off our current "starter" home in 10-12 years (maybe less if we get good raises/bonuses). So, my goal is to stay and make due. On paper, we can technically afford about twice the house we're in now. But, the money we save later from no mortgage payments will be allocated between the kids' education funds and our early retirement fund. Not to be morbid, but my hubby's family history is horrible for longevity (men in his family rarely live past their 50s), so I want to be financially prepared if something should (God forbid) happen. I'm just a planner that way. I also experienced a layoff about 2 years ago and took 9 months to find a new job. Financially that was SO stressful, so I'd rather be where we can always live off one salary so if that happens again we don't risk losing our home. Plus, did I say how much I dislike moving.... :eek Shirelle 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:24 AM We rent :) So, yes we hope to be out of here one day! Dawn 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:32 AM Yah, I like to move every 5 years. That's when I start getting a little antsy. This is our second house. I might see us moving one more time. We have 4 kids in a 4 bedroom house. So they boys share right now, which is okay. I don't know. Still thinking on it. alisah 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:35 AM I don't ever want to move again!!!! I hate moving! We got the bigger house we wanted, in a great neighborhood, with great schools! What else could we need?! DallasMommies 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:35 AM I love our house, but we will move before Colton starts school, to get in a better school district. Cyndie 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:41 AM We're currently on a two year plan to move. DH drives from Garland to Las Colinas (Irving) for work. MIL is in Carrollton, FIL in Irving. I absolutely love the property surrounding our current house and know we're not likely to find anything as wonderful. But we do want something larger and newer. This house is older and we've done lots of work on it, but would have lots more to do to make it the way we really want it. We also want to move before Riley gets too far into school so the transition will be easier for him. brooksy 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:46 AM yes we plan to live in our teeny tiny house forever...we LOVE our neighbors and neighborhood...and the fact that we are so close to everything...so even though our house is tiny...we aren't planning on going anywhere... Suzi-Q 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:56 AM Definitely planning to move. We have a small starter home and have already outgrown it! We bought 1.5 acres in Rockwall and plan to build a house my husband designs in the next several years. Looking forward to the day when we actually have a back yard for the kids to play in! Michelle&Danny 02-09-2006 Thursday, 10:14 AM This was our first home..... We will move most likely within the next few years. We want to be on some land... not horse country, just more land. Maybe Lucas or Fairview . We'd love to be on the lake, but that's hard to do right in this area. We'll eventually retire on the ocean somewhere.....hopefully Danny will go to college near an ocean :) Dorothy 02-09-2006 Thursday, 10:23 AM I love my home! And we are in good schools so I don't see us moving and I don't really need any extra space as that is just more for me to clean so although we live in a 3 bedroom home with 3 kids I don't forsee us moving any time in the next 10 years!! I believe that if I am getting crowded in my house than some of the stuff we have can go :D Janette 02-09-2006 Thursday, 10:37 AM We just moved her a year ago so I don't plan on moving. Plus moving with 3 kids was hard I can't imagine moving with 4!! I think we will live here at least til all of the girls are out of high school. So 18-19 more years. I really LOVE my neighbors. There are friends for all 4 of the girls very close! I have made friends with 2 neighbors especially and they have kids similar ages to mine so that makes it even nicer to live here! I love having 10 kids running in and out of my house and knowing that my girls all have friends! I am a little crazy, I know! angie 02-09-2006 Thursday, 10:41 AM This is our starter house, even though we have been here about 7 years. I'm hoping within the next year or so we will be out of this house. TeriMomOf4 02-09-2006 Thursday, 10:43 AM We are here for the forseeable future, but I will not assume that it will be forever. This is the fourth house we have lived in, the third house we have bought in the 7 years that we have been married. We have been here for 3 1/2 years. five_lil_monkeys 02-09-2006 Thursday, 11:34 AM "We" are out of here in a year and a half. As far as Im concerned, there are no good middle schools around here, so unless I get Chloe into some other school, we will move to another area or district befroe she goes into middle school. Elaine 02-09-2006 Thursday, 11:36 AM we will have to upgrade. We live in a 3-2 house and are already up to our eyeballs with stuff that we don't have room for. With a 3rd baby on the way we're going to outgrow the house SOON :rolleyes jessjillbolyer 02-09-2006 Thursday, 11:37 AM We live with my father in law and we plan to buy land some time this year. About 5 acers we hope. We are going to try and get it paid off in about 5 years and then start to build a house on it. We plan to have a 3000 sq foot house built with a small apartment for his dad to live in as well. Jasonsmom 02-09-2006 Thursday, 11:39 AM We're still in an apartment, but hope to be moving out-of-state in the next year or two... :rolleyes jill0221 02-09-2006 Thursday, 12:01 PM We're planning a move now. We need more space and with my husband working from home he desperately needs a closed off office (right now he's using the upstairs loft) since the little one is much more vocal now! Julia 02-09-2006 Thursday, 12:34 PM We bought this house with the intent that this would be our 20 yr house. The layout is perfect for small children and later teenagers. We are within 2 miles of the elementary, jr high and H.S. (or private school if deem that necessary later). When the kids go off to college, I want something smaller. :) BUT......Life is what happens when your busy making other plans. Not sure what will actually happen in the next 20 yrs. Shannon 02-09-2006 Thursday, 12:36 PM I'd say yes, but I really don't know. I don't think we will move again in the Dallas area, but I also don't think we will stay in Dallas forever. We want to retire somewhere warm while the kids are still young and are keeping our transfer options open. juliema 02-09-2006 Thursday, 12:48 PM We had always planned for this to be our starter home and will most likely move in the next 3 years from this house (we even have a 7 year arm mortgage because of it) but I'm starting to get attached to the house and definately the area so who knows. :) texas1010 02-09-2006 Thursday, 01:02 PM We plan on moving in a few years, but haven't decided where. We are considering moving to Austin, which we would love. But I will be just as happy if we move to a one story house around here. However, large one stories are a tough commodity in this area. Krysta 02-09-2006 Thursday, 01:18 PM I don't want to move. We've moved 8 times in the past 7 years! :eek This is our first home to own- it isn't huge, but it isn't tiny either. Once we do all of the "stuff" we want to do to this house, I will never want to leave it. I am very sentimental, and get attached to things like houses and cars. :blush DH wants LAND- which we don't have here, so he plans to move at some point. We'll see. Susan 02-09-2006 Thursday, 01:27 PM If it were up to me then yes we will move one day. DH thinks we could stay in this house forever. I think it's fine right now but I don't think it's an area that I'll want to be in 10 years from now but who knows...I'll leave it open. Susan Vanessa 02-09-2006 Thursday, 02:14 PM It really just depends. DH has a great job, but we'd love to cut down the commute time he has. Plus, he has possible options to move to other areas within the company. We're here for the foreseeable future because I need to finish school, and we'd prefer to have Alex in a good place about school because of his needs and his reluctance to new things. Chera25 02-09-2006 Thursday, 04:16 PM Will since we are in an apt. not a house ;) - we will definitely have to move again at some point. We've lived here since July 02 & though it's not the best apt. I do NOT want Cassidy to have a long list of addresses (like I did growing up), so we vowed not to move until we move into *the* house. Not sure when that will be or where that will be, but we'll be here for awhile until that happens. & Even then - not making any promises that that will be the only house we'll ever have - I just really don't want to move & move & move anymore. :) Bonny 02-09-2006 Thursday, 04:21 PM We're moving in the middle of next month, but I'm not sure we'll stay there forever either. I hate moving, but as things get crowded, I want more space. We'll just have to see.... Cori 02-09-2006 Thursday, 04:46 PM We're in our first house right now. I'd like to be closer to downtown - we're thinking about moving inside the loop within the next year and a half. After we pay off Chris' 2005 business taxes, we'll be socking away the money for a down payment on house #2! mamacita 02-09-2006 Thursday, 04:50 PM We rent here in Dallas and we havent even been in this house for a year. I have moved every year for the past five years in a row:cryand I hate it. I see a lot more moves in our future too but it all depends on my dh's fellowship and career. Its all "up in the air" along with the rest of our life:rolleyes Someday we will settle in. Jamie 02-09-2006 Thursday, 05:05 PM Nope. We are actually looking for our forever home right now. adilap 02-09-2006 Thursday, 05:17 PM We are living in our 2nd home and we love it right now. I figure in about 10 years we will move to another house when the girls are in high school. We will stay in the Northwest part of Frisco. I love the schools and the people. allieh 02-09-2006 Thursday, 05:39 PM This is not our forever home but we will be re-evaluating next summer. Would really like to be closer to family in Chicago but lovethe weather here:) ! If we stay here for awhile(this house), we will have to do private schools so that is a factor inthe decision. Cara 02-09-2006 Thursday, 05:51 PM DH and I bought our first house together in April 2004. We absolutely love the area we are in and he is 5 mins from his office. The plan was to stay here 5-6 years until our future oldest child was ready for school and then move to the Park Cities. I am very attached to our area with the large oak trees and homes with character and charm. I can't imagine living in the burbs and DH having such a long commute into downtown each day either, so that's our plan for now. But you never know where life will take you!?!? Cori 02-09-2006 Thursday, 05:59 PM We are actually looking for our forever home right now. What area(s) are you looking at, Jamie? simplyme 02-09-2006 Thursday, 09:35 PM hubby has had over 10 jobs in 10 yrs of marriage so i'm doubting we'll be here more than a year. ambhi 02-10-2006 Friday, 09:28 AM I like it HERE.. its dh who wants to move to somewhere bigger.. I just don't see myself cleaning anything else, really! He is a perfectionist by nature though so we can never agree.. Took us 18mos to agree on THIS house.. I cannot imagine going over that process AGAIN every weekend, looking at houses.. twoplusone 02-11-2006 Saturday, 10:37 PM I voted other. We did not plan on moving but now we are. The first house I lived in with dh he swore he would never leave. As he put it he would only leave if he was in a wooden box (AKA a coffin). It was a 98 year old historic home in Munger Place. Then when we did move we thought it would be forever. But here we are now, actually moving to another state! We spent all day today driving around looking at houses. We plan on moving in a few years, but haven't decided where. We are considering moving to Austin, which we would love. But I will be just as happy if we move to a one story house around here. However, large one stories are a tough commodity in this area. Funny you say that. There are ton of one story homes here in Baton Rouge! We are having a hard time finding a two story home! texasamy 02-12-2006 Sunday, 09:32 AM I'd move back to Austin in a minute(I was born and raised there), but DH is very attached to "things" so he just wants to stay here and fix up this house~FOREVER! It's kinds frustrating b/c our area keeps going up and we could make close to 80K profit if we sold:( But since he wants to stay in Dallas~we'd have to spend more. |
