Homebirth VBAC?

I am almost ready to start trying for another baby but I have some major concerns before we even start. I had Ernest 7 weeks early by way of c-section. My water broke the 29th of April and I was on meds to stop labor but a stomach virus did me in on May 1st. I had a fever, vomiting and very tender uterus so my OB tried to induce which failed. I had a c-section all alone in the OR because Iggy had the same virus as me. Needless to say I was very disappointed in my sons birth. I had planned an all natural no drugs delivery. I originally wanted a water home birth but Iggy was dead set against it.

If we have another baby it will be my last and I want my dream birth. Will I be able to find a midwife who will do a home birth VBAC? My daughters birth was to be no drugs but I had her in a military hospital where I got yelled at for making noise during contractions. Was pressured into a Epi which stalled my labor so lucky me got put on Pitocin. :frown Going from 7 to 10 in 2 minutes is not fun!

It may seem weird but this time I don't want an IV and monitors, no finding out babies sex since I already have 1 of each plus and step-daughter and I want to give birth in warm water. Any idea on how to find a midwife before I get pregnant?

Hey Summer! I'm planning a homebirth vbac and am due in a couple of weeks! :upthumb If you'd like to chat more about it from someone who's about to actually go through it, I'd be happy to talk as well! :)

Anytime you want to get together, let me know. I also do pre-conception counseling.. as far as getting yourself into optimum health prior to pregnancy.

Congrats and good luck on TTC in the near future!

Would I need my medical records from my last pregnancy? So far I am taking Folic acid, trying to lose a few pounds and eating healthier. Anything else you could suggest?

Yes, we'd need to get your records from your c-section. I suggest a good food-based prenatal, and I like to go over food journals to make sure you're getting all the good stuff for you and the baby-to-be. Sounds like you're doing lots of good stuff already!

Oh man, will I have to write down what I eat? I tried that with fitday and bombed. I'm going to call the OB I used tomorrow to see about getting my records. Any idea what a whole prenatal/delivery/check-up costs? I doubt my husbands insurance will cover this so I need a ballpark figure to run by him.

Not every day. ;) I like to get an idea of what how your nourishing yourself and the baby-to-be, and so I usually ask my clients to write down what they eat/drink for three days and then we go over it to see if/what we need to improve. We'll do that several times throughout pregnancy.

I'm going to call the OB I used tomorrow to see about getting my records.
Some will charge you a copy/mail fee for you to get your own records personally. However, you can fill out a "request for records" form with me, and they'll fax it to me -or whoever you choose as a midwife - for free.

Also, if you use a senior student midwife, there is sometimes a discount on the cost. Of course, there will be a fully licenced midwife supervising as well.
