Do you buy used or new?

This summer, we'll buy the first used car I've bought since I was 17. I've always bought new. But, I was an idiot. ;) It will be used from here on out, most likely. Gently used, hopefully, but used.

We tend to buy used. A year old typically, maybe 2 if the mileage is really low. The only new car I have ever bought was our Tribute. It was the first year that the small SUVs came out.

Ahhhh, makes sense now. We have bought both new and uses depending on the purpose of the vehicle (second vehicle etc).

Gently used, non-smokers vehicle with a remaining warranty is what we look for.

We have always bought new.....both my husband and I come from the car business and I don't trust the used cars (for the most part) because I see how they inspect them before they are sold (hardly at all!)

I voted new, but dh would vote gently used. I just have flashbacks of when I was young and single and would buy used cars. There always seemed to be a good reason why the person was selling it - which I would discover after I had already bought it of course!

I would prefer to buy new, but the cost is insane on most cars, so we went used with my last car. So far it has been great.

My van is brand new. Dh's truck is used.
Our 2 previous vehicles- one used SUV and one new truck.

Used from Carmax with warrantee (THANK GOD for warrantee!!! Getting new engine as we speak). And they have a deoderizer that made the van smell brand new!
Can't afford a brand new van. Would if we could though!

I have bought both. Our Sequoia is less than one year old and has a certified pre-owned warranty. Used w/ one year or less is what I'd pick form now on. You lose so much the minute you drive your new car off the lot.

New for warranty

We are open to either. My hubby generally thoroughly checks cars anyway (used to be a mechanic awhile back) and our next door neighbor is a mechanic. I prefer new but the prices are very insane and I can't stand how much you loose.

We buy new. Though dh has bought used in the past and it has come back to bite him so now we are new car buyers.

Our last car was used, and it came with a warranty. Unfortunately, we've had to make use of the warranty more times than I can count.

We will always buy used, I think.

I definitely allow someone else to knock the top off. My dh used to be sales manager and finance manager for a Chevy dealership. New is not the way to go. On top of that, the amount that you lose once you leave the lot should be illegal. Slightly used is the best way to go.

Used cause when you buy new once you drive away you automatically lose money!! Its just a better deal to buy used.

We are VERY finicky about the brand of car we buy. We LOVE Toyota. We have bought 2 new ones and this last one was a yr old. We were not able to afford a new Sienna at this time and I am VERY happy with our purchase. My older Toytotas are 1990 and 1992, they have required maintanence, but are still running good, though they don't look very pretty.

Very gently used. It's not worth it to me to get a car that's already been on the road for 3 years, and it's insane the amount you lose on a brand new car.

Doing homebirths, I do a LOT of driving, so I need something that starts off with very low miles when I buy it. So, we're pretty picky on getting one vehicles that haven't done a lot on the road before we buy it.

It is a cheaper monthly payment for us to buy new, it seems...but we pay for it FOREVER (and I know, pay much more over that amount of time). Anyhow, new here!

We got our car from Central Kia. Kia's have awesome warranties!

Go to he dealership and ask if they have a demo or one year old. You can only get Certified Preowned from the dealer for the same make.

Yes, you can get a demo from the dealership, but it isn't considered a pre-owned car unless it has over 6000 miles on it. Dealers will most likely only drive the car until it has 5000 miles on it. Beware because they might make it look like they are giving you a good deal because its a demo, but in reality they aren't.
I used to be a finance manager at Trophy Nissan (until I became a SAHM)....and I can tell you from seeing it first hand. Also any VT dealership will do the same as well.

I agree that some will make Demo's look like a great deal but aren't!!

I think it was $10 extra bucks a month.

I used to sell the extended warranties in the dealership (I would never buy a new car without it!) BUT they do mark them up quite a bit.....but if you tell them that you will buy one at cost or $100 over cost they will usually do it...they DON'T want to let you leave without the warranty......It might take a little negotiations, but ask them to see the cost sheet.....they will eventually give in!

We bought a used Odessey from CarMax. Great price & warranty. Unfortunately, I have already had 3 small mishaps in less than a year b/c of its size!

I have always bought used b/c that is what my Dad has always helped me research and find. DH has always bought new. We haven't bought a car together since we got married, but when we do I have a feeling it will be new.

I picked other because my husband and I had just bought our first brand new cars right before we met each other. So now that we've each had a taste of what that is like, we can't say if our next car will be used or new. That probably won't be the deciding factor; it'll depend on the car, the price, our needs. So maybe we'll get a used one, maybe a new one. Whatever works.
