angie 01-17-2006 Tuesday, 05:42 PM What do you use ground turkey for? I know you can just replace it for ground beef. Does anyone have any good recipes? I rarely buy ground beef, but I'm getting in a rut with the same ol recipes..so thought I'd try some ground turkey.
Kristy 01-17-2006 Tuesday, 05:44 PM I am making turkey spaghetti tonight. :) I have also used it for tacos. I can't tell the difference.
Vanessa 01-17-2006 Tuesday, 05:44 PM umm...I have a recipe for a turkey pot pie casserole somewhere - it wasn't too bad (I added too many peas & carrots to mine). I'll have to dig it up.
angie 01-17-2006 Tuesday, 05:45 PM Kristy and Vanessa,
Those dishes sound great ~ could I get the recipes from you?
Kristy 01-17-2006 Tuesday, 05:50 PM I just go the quick and easy route, since Jake is usually grabbing at my legs. :) For the spaghetti, I brown the turkey and add it to spaghetti sauce (I like Classico Sun Dried Tomato) and for sides we have salad and low-fat crescent rolls. For the tacos, I just brown the turkey and follow the directions on the taco seasoning. I usually chop us some onion & tomato to go on top. Let us know how your dishes turn out! :)
JulieS 01-17-2006 Tuesday, 05:53 PM You can replace turkey for beef in any recipe, I think. I've made meatloaf patties, dirty rice w/beef (turkey) lately. Tastes really good!
Vanessa 01-18-2006 Wednesday, 08:00 AM Turkey Biscuit Potpie
1 lb groud turkey
3 TBSP flour (all-purpose)
2 C milk
2 1/2 C frozen peas & carrots, thawed
1 tube (11 oz) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
In a large skillet, cook turkey until no longer pink; drain.
In a large saucepan, combine the milk and flour until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in vegetables and turkey. Transfer to a greased 8-in square baking dish.
Separate biscuits; place over turkey mixture. Bake at 400 for 12-15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
I think it would be good if you added some chopped up potatoes and some other veggies. Also I used two small tubes of biscuits instead of the big tube and it turned out fine. It's a fairly quick recipe too, which is what I like about it. And feel free to add salt/pepper to the milk - I just didn't put it in the recipe.
juliema 01-18-2006 Wednesday, 08:05 AM I make turkey chili alot and I also recently made rachael rays tex mex mac and cheese with beef and peppers substituting turkey.... yummy! :)
jessjillbolyer 01-18-2006 Wednesday, 08:37 AM I mix ground beef and ground turkey together so its about half the fat and taste really good!
angie 01-27-2006 Friday, 02:11 PM Thanks ladies!! I made a dish with ground turkey and no one even noticed the difference that it wasn't ground beef :D

DiscoLemonade 01-27-2006 Friday, 03:19 PM A friend of mine used ground turkey for a lettuce wrap recipe. It was yummy. I am sure a recipe can be found online somewhere. :)
Misty 01-27-2006 Friday, 03:25 PM Okay so is my family the only family that DID notice a difference? I can tell one, though I don't think it was a bad difference personally however the rest of the fam did notice and didn't seem to like it as much?
Cyndie 01-27-2006 Friday, 03:26 PM I use groud turkey all the time. Tonight I'm making Fiesta casserole (turkey, salsa, mac&cheese, black beans). I always use turkey in lasagna, chili and for meatballs. I also like to mix turkey with salsa, make patties and broil. Top with sauted mushrooms and yum!
MichelleChell 01-27-2006 Friday, 03:26 PM OOOHHH Kandi do you think you could get the recipe from her for the lettuce wraps.

Can I get the measurements on this? I think they would like this :upthumb
amnesiac 02-19-2006 Sunday, 11:54 AM I don't use ground beef at all anymore. I use turkey for everything - burgers, tacos, meatballs, meatloaf, etc. It does have a different texture though so I usually add more breadcrumbs to the meatloaf & burgers. And I think I also season more heavily than I do beef.
