I see these are rated on a 1-5 scale. Is 1 or 5 a high rating? And how did they come up with their numbers? Just curious.

5 is the highest... and they based it on 5 quality measures - obstetric volume, complication rates, presence of a newborn intensive care unit (NICU), newborn mortality rates and preplanned first-time cesarean section rates.

I seen a few discrepencies about the hospital.... The one I will deliver at TOMmorrow does have aNICU level II and it says it doesn't have one???? Just a observation!!

I was looking at the results and a level 2 NICU is not a NICU. I work at a hospital with a level 2 and they have to ship out all babies that require more than IV antibiotics or minimal amounts of oxygen. In my personal opinion, a level 2 NICU is not a NICU...our babies usually go home with mom and if they stay longer it is usually only 24 hours more. Only a level 3 NICU can handle the sickest of babies and the babies that are typically associated with a NICU stay.

I hope that helps to clarify the survey.

I have delivered at 3 of the hospitals on the list: Baylor, Dallas; All Saints, FW; and Presby Dallas (and then of course the Vermont version of it...not even comparable!) Presby was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it over Baylor Dallas.

If you're concerned about NICU I know that Baylor of Garland is a level III. That's where Logan and Megan stayed for 12 days at 33wks when they were born. I highly recommend them. They are AWESOME!! Not only on the baby's care but mine as well. We still visit :)

My big interest in Obstetric wards is Paul and I have decided to produce a 2nd child. I went through the info because I was curious about the hospitals near me, specifically Lake Point and Baylor at Garland. When it comes to that point, I expect to have an uneventful vaginal birth with no meds like I did with Angelica but it doesn't hurt to err on the side of caution...

Teri-
I have been considering finding an OB who is with Presby Dallas, but have yet to decide since it would be about a 35-40 minute drive for each visit and to deliver. I have delivered both my kids at Charleton Methodist which is out here in Duncanville, and I had one bad experience and one good one. After reading your posts about Presby Dallas, I'm wondering if it would be worth it to drive for the extra care? Which doctor did you use from there?:confused
