On several posts, some mamas have eluded to the fact that they don't drink alcohlol because they are nursing, now some of you may think my a bad mama, but once I delivered Ellie, I began to drink again. All the nurses in my lacation classes said that it was ok. As long as you did not feel tipsy for affected, it was ok to still nurse. That has always been my rule. Once or twice the wine got to my head where I was far from drunk or tipsy, but felt a bit of the effect, so I opted for a bottle of breastmilk from the freezer. I have alwasy felt ok until some recent notes from mamas about not drinking because they are nursing. I guess I am not really looking for advice since I feel confortable with my decision, just curious what other's opinions are.

I will and have had the occasional drink when I nursed Autumn and I didn't feel that it affected her! Now that is JMO some people think it is OK to have a glass of wine when you are pregnant (I haven't done that ) but as soon as I have Riley and my milk is established I will NEED a drink!!!

I've had a couple drinks while nursing.
On one occassion I did drink a lot at an overnight Christmas party. Lauren was with my mom and drinking frozen breastmilk from a bottle. I took my pump to the party and dumped the milk.

I maybe had two glasses of wine during the entire time I was nursing.
Definitely never had a glass of anything while I was pregnant. There is just not enough information about how much it takes to affect a baby and the one thing you can prevent is FAE and FAS.
Consequently, I am a complete lightweight now...after being pregnant or nursing from 8/99-4/03.:p

I'm not a big drinker anyway but after a while I started to crave wine coolers when I hadn't had a drink in so long. Once Teddy was sleeping through the night it was easy to have a drink at night when I wanted to.

Having a glass of wine is fine when your nursing, IMO. Our LLL leader suggests nursing, then have your drink right afterwards, if possible, so that there is the biggest time span between your drink and the next nursing session. Between pregnacies when I was just nursing, I would have an occasional glass of red wine. I lost my taste for beer and most mixed drinks though.
In fact, I believe a very occasional glass of red wine while pregnant is OK. I had 3 small glasses of wine during my pregnancy with Julian - but not at once! One on my birthday, one for our 6 month anniversary, and one on Valentine's day. I got the OK from my midwife on this. Different people/docs/midwife's feel differently on this - like most aspects of pregnancy!
This pregnancy I had one small (very juiced-down!) drink at my sister's wedding reception.

I, too, have the occasional drink while I am nursing. I am not a big drinker so drinking too much has never been a real issue. 1 or 2 is my normal limit anyway ;) . I have also had an occasional glass of wine or sip of margarita (really just a sip) while pregnant. My OB even reccomended it when I was having bad braxton hicks. A glass of wine and a warm bath. It worked well.

I breastfed my daughter for about ten months, and I also felt comfortable drinking a glass of wine about once a week or so. All the research I looked at seemed to show that is was fine in moderation, and after nine months of being sober...I was ready for the occasional "treat"....

I guess I'm completely paranoid. I'll only allow myself to have a beer (nothing with liquor) and then I'll wait 2 hours afterwards before I'll nurse again. I don't criticize anyone who does differently, I doubt it's harmful, but I'm such a worry wart myself I can't do it.
