Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 08:41 AM Well, this cycle I really paid attention to my temps. I've thought it previously during other cycles. But I think my luteal phase is averaging 8-9 days long. That seems short. Have any of you had this problem? I think I'm going to call my doc about it. I'm wondering what could be done to solve that problem!
Susie 01-09-2006 Monday, 08:49 AM That is too short... mine is short too..it doesn't give the baby time to implant. This is one of my questions for the Dr... I go on the 24th os if you go sooner let me know too.
Mine is 6-8 days..if I am lucky 10 days. Last cycle I O'ed on Christmas Eve and I started Jan 1st.
Giovanna 01-09-2006 Monday, 08:52 AM I have not had that problem myself, but there are things that can be done to help it. The doctor may put you on Clomid, which helps ensure ovulation and can make LP longer. Or he may give you progesterone, because a short LP means your progesterone is probably low.

I believe this is what a dr would try to lengthen your LP. Good luck!
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 08:59 AM Well, I'm waiting for his office to call about some bloodwork I had last week. I forgot to mention the luteal phase to him while I was there Wednesday. I'm taking dd to the doctor this morning, so I'll call his office this afternoon.
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 09:00 AM Thanks guys...I went ahead and emailed his nurse. She always gets back to me pretty quick that way. I'm anxious to see what they have to say!

My last OB wouldn't give progesterone until I got a BFP.
Shirelle 01-09-2006 Monday, 09:50 AM In the book I recommended previously Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition there are many pages devoted to the topic of short luteal phases.
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 10:00 AM Yeah there are in the TCOYF also (Weschler even uses suggestions from Marilyn Shannon), but nothing seems to be helping. It's time to bring in the doctor!
Cara 01-09-2006 Monday, 10:11 AM Any word from the MD yet?
LP is the one thing that my body does right....Progesterone will help.
Shirelle 01-09-2006 Monday, 10:15 AM Have you tried the night lighting suggestions as well as the dietary suggestions?
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 02:42 PM Any word from the MD yet?

No, but I've been gone. Plus it's Monday and I figure it's a busy day...but they'll call before they leave for the day!
I'm 8DPO and I had a big temp drop this morning, so I'm pretty bummed because I have a feeling that AF is going to rear it's ugly head tomorrow. It usually shows up on day 31 no matter when I ovulate.
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 02:43 PM Have you tried the night lighting suggestions as well as the dietary suggestions?
I just ordered the book you suggested. I have have tried a few dietary things, but not the night lighting...explain that one to me! PRETTY PLEASE!!!
Shirelle 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:12 PM Sure!
A quote from that section:
"Unlikely as it sounds, sensitivity to night lighting may cause scant or patchy mucus, prolonged more fertile mucus, short luteal phases, other cycle irregularities, and infertility even with regular cycles."
We're talking even the littlest bit of light from outside streetlights, closet lights being on, or your alarm clock.
The first course of action is to completely darken your room from all light sources for several cycles....if that doesn't help the cycle stabilize, you try adding a little bit of light for three nights beginning two days after the more fertile mucus is seen (mimicking moonlight).
When you get the book you can read the "why's" to get an idea of why this happens.
HTH!
And I'm curious---as I haven't read TCOYF--what type of dietary recommendations does that book give you?
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:19 PM Well, the night lighting might not work for me because we sleep totally dark. But I may have to bring a little light in...
Have you ever heard of using black cohosh and chast tree berry in helping to extend your LP?
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:24 PM Sure!
And I'm curious---as I haven't read TCOYF--what type of dietary recommendations does that book give you?
These aren't exact quotes, but just lists of some...Mind you she does suggest Shannon's book for further dietary help.
Must haves...whole grains, fruits, veggies
Cutting back on foods high in sugar, salt and fat.
Cutting back on chocolate
Increase complex carbs while decreasing protein
I also read online that yams can help with short LP...but unfortunately they make me throw up just smellign them! :lol
Shirelle 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:28 PM Have you ever heard of using black cohosh and chast tree berry in helping to extend your LP?
No, I haven't. It's probably the Vitamin A. Shannon recommends eating carrots to aid in producing better CM. Even just one raw carrot per day can help.
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:30 PM the carrots aren't the problem and CM isn't a problem. I have 3-4 days of EWCM and I ovulate...but I just don't have a long enough LP for it to work! This is just so difficult!
Are you TTC again?
Shirelle 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:33 PM No, I'm not. We use NFP to avoid pregancy, when we have a strong need to do that.
I hope it's okay that I'm poking around this board so much! I just have a lot of experience with charting, so I'm trying to be of help:bag
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 03:43 PM No...it doesn't bother me. You seem very knowledgable. I'm just learning. After reading TCOYF, I decided that I'd never go back on BC again and i won't. But I'm anxious to see what Shannon has to add. It sounds like her book is really more about eating right for women from the reviews I read. But if she has info that assists in TTC...then I'm game!
Cara 01-09-2006 Monday, 05:40 PM Stacey-My DH and I decided that we would never go back on BCPs again. Plus we would love lots of children, so the more the merrier! We are still very hopeful for that large family.

Us too! Dh and I are both from family's of 4 kids so we know we want atleast 4..god willing that is. If we ever decide we have enough I would have my tubes tied but I don't think we will ever have to worry about it :thumb
Stacey 01-09-2006 Monday, 08:15 PM Well, I'd be happy with 2...but I wouldn't mind 2-3. Course, I'll take whatever I can get! :D If God wants me to have more than 2-3...so be it!
Cara 01-09-2006 Monday, 09:12 PM My DH and I have joked that if they came in pairs we would be really happy!
