Oh Me Oh My

Well today did not start off well at all. I woke up very sick and ended up having to go to the Dr...I have ear infections in both ears and an upper respiratory infection (YUCK). Then my dauchsund was really sick yesterday so we had to take her to the doggie hospital and they are waiting to see if she responds to the treatments and if not then we are going to have to put her down. I don't know about anyone else here, but our animals are part of the family and I am dying inside right now. Then to make it worse my mom got put in the hospital tonight. She had her uterus frozen 3 weeks ago to try to help out with her massive periods and has developed an infectious mass in her stomache and they want to see if SHE responds to treatment and if not they will have to do a hysterectomy. I live with my parents so this is really hard on my daughter who doesn't understand why her "little friend" (the dog) and NaNa are both gone. Plus I will have to be the one to make the decision about the dog as well. It is times like this I want to be a kid again and have the decisions made for me. Sorry to be such a downer, but all prayers would be appreciated.

:grouphug I'm so sorry. Hope your mom is okay.

I understand your concern for your pet. I've had to make that decision before - it helped me to go have some time with my cat and to hold him while they euthanized him. It's very quick and peaceful, not scary or painful in any way. It also helped me to have him cremated so I would know what was done with his remains.

I did spend sometime with her when I got back from the Dr's and I had to go through this four years ago w/ my other dog. I made the mistake of being in there when they euthanized her though and I am still traumatized. I wasn't planning on being in for this one, but if I am the only able to be there I'm not going to let her go all by herself.

Hi Jennifer, I am sorry for all the problems. I totally understand about the dog. We have had to make those decisions far too often and they are never easy. I also understand about your mom. In 1986 I had to have a hysterectomy, but to tell the turth it was the best decision I ever made. I no longer had to deal with any of the problems, most of all the best thing is no more periods. And I never felt better than after I had it. So if your mom does have to have it, and she wants to talk about it, tell her to call me. You can get my number from Jenna or Jodi. Bev

What is wrong with her? Is it something that may turn around?

They aren't quite sure. Her liver enzymes are quite high but the x-rays are showing nothing. They think she may have just lived her life and is ready to go. It is a curse in our family. One month before any of our dogs have turned 12 years old they have to be put down. Mitzi (our dog) will be 12 on Valentine's Day...just too weird.

Thanks Bev for the positive thoughts. I just kind of feel stupid for being so upset over a dog, but she has been there through everything.

I am so sorry to hear of all you're going thru. Our pets are part of our family, too. We have 2 ferrets and 1 is dying. She is in good spirits and does not seem to have any pain, but knowing the end is near is heartbreaking. You and your family are in my prayers.

I'm so sorry, sounds like it's hitting you all at once. I hope your mom is okay, I will be praying for her. And as far as your dog, I know exactly what you're going through. We just had to put my dog down a few months ago - it was the dog I got when I was in 2nd grade. We had her for 15 years! I will be thinking of you - I know it's hard to say goodbye.
