hannah 12-27-2003 Saturday, 03:22 PM Thinking about trying Atkins, at least the first two week 'induction' part to see if it works for me.....I cant seem to lose this last 25 pounds I got while pregnant, seems my metabolism has changed......any thoughts on Atkins? anyone on it?
mommiematters 12-27-2003 Saturday, 03:48 PM I highly recommend Atkins and just about any Low Carb way of eating. I cannot tell you all the benefits you will receive by eating low carb for life. But, you have to remember Atkins is NOT a diet. It is a WOL (Way of Life). If you go back to eating all the carbs which have given you the weight and ailments then they will return as will the weight. Check out these sites http://www.atkinsfriends.com and http://www.holdthetoast.com/. You will find tons of stuff here. If you have any questions ask.
I have lost 22 lbs so far and DH has lost over 20. I am reinducting tomorrow so I will be right along with you.
Carol 12-27-2003 Saturday, 04:58 PM You might want to also look into the South Beach Diet. It's low carb but I don't think it's quite as intense as Atkins. I think you get to add in carbs slowly after a couple weeks. I haven't been on either one so I don't know that much about the diets.
Dorothy 12-27-2003 Saturday, 05:39 PM My hubby did a low carb way of life! and he lost 80 lbs in a year of corse you still need to work out and that helps out a ton!! We didn't follow the atkins diet plan we just cut down on carbs you will see an amazing difference! We kinda followed a Diabetic diet plan lots of salads and lots of meat! It works great but it really is a way of life and not a diet! Good Luck!!
Julia 12-27-2003 Saturday, 06:07 PM I'm a fan of the diabetic diet...I was introduced during my second pregnancy. It's a healthy plan regardless of your bloodsugar.
I don't believe in NO carb diets......not realistic and not healthy to eat all that fat. My uncle was on Atkins when he died of his heart attack (45) and so was John Ritter (fiftysomething). Both of them lost alot of weight on Atkins and LOOKED great, but all that fat cannot be good for the heart. I think in the future the medical field will be rethinking the NO carb idea.
Are you breastfeeding? I always lost 15 lbs right after I weaned, but a "diet" should not be introduced while breastfeeding, you need 500 extra calories a day to maintain breastfeeding.
Carbs are important fuel for women, so I would vote Low carb over No carb any day. My MIL passed out on the tennis court on the South Beach diet, she's very fit and 55, just wanted to drop 10 lbs.
Actually I'd give up meat completely before I'd give up rice.
Now my mom was bedridden when she broke her pelvic bone. She had 60 lbs to lose after that six months w/ no activity and nothing to do but eat. Weight watchers worked for her and she lives by counting points now........it's based on the diabetic diet. It is much easier to count points when you go out to eat over trying to do no carb. Just tell the waiter your on a diabetic diet and you need the sauce on the side etc... they are usually very acomodating.

mommiematters 12-27-2003 Saturday, 08:18 PM Atkins is by no means NO carb. So many people think this but it is not. South Beach is great also. So is Sugarbusters, Lean For Life, Zone, Protein Power....there are tons out there. You have to find the one that works for you and follow it.
As far as Atkins and people thinking it is NO carb. The first two weeks you eat no more than 20 carbs. Yes that is very little compared to the 300-500 that Amercians eat on average daily. But, after 2 weeks you begin adding in carbs until you are no longer losing on a weekly basis. I highly recommend reading the book. It is full of info and I have more than one copy if anyone would like to borrow.
BTW- I am breastfeeding and go into ketosis. Ketosis is NOT the same as ketoacidiosis which is what every one talks about when they say Atkins will cause liver damage.
Also fat is awesome for our bodies. You will actually eat less calories if you are eating fat. Fat actually gives us the full feeling. Here is a great link of fat and losing weight.... http://www.low-carb-friends.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=185368
I am very passionate about this so please excuse me if I offend anyone.
Bonny 12-27-2003 Saturday, 09:06 PM I tried Atkins after I'd had Jackson for about two weeks. I'm not a big excerciser, so I just tried to stick to the diet in the books. I had never been overweight or on a diet, I was just looking for a quicker way to lose some of my postpartum baby weight. I was on it for two weeks and lost eight pounds. I have heard that if you get off the diet, you gain the weight right back, but I never did (or at least not yet, and that was 13 months ago), but I just chalked that up to that baby weight was eventually going to come off anyway and I'd just helped it along. I don't know if that's right, that's just the way I looked at it.
So, it worked okay for me, but it was hard because the foods are really strict. I am a big salad and vegetable and bread eater, and those are no-no's. Plus, I don't usually eat much breakfast, maybe coffee, but I had to start eating like eggs and turkey bacon, so that was difficult for me to actually make a full meal to eat when I hadn't before. BUT-it was bearable, because I knew that I was only going to do it for a set amount of time so each day I could think, "okay, only 5 more days to go," etc.
Good luck! I know how frustrating getting that baby weight off can be. Just remember, Audrey's only eight months old and the way I see it, you were pregnant for nine/ten months, so you have that long at least for your body to work that weight off itself. :hug
mommiematters 12-27-2003 Saturday, 09:34 PM >>>I am a big salad and vegetable<<<
Actually these are not no's. You are suppose to eat 3 cups of salad or 2 cups plus 1 cup of authorized veggies every day during induction and then start upping it.
But of course the bread is a no no. But there are TONS of Low carb breads, tortillas, chips, etc on the market now that you can include after 2 weeks.
Julia 12-29-2003 Monday, 09:58 AM I've never been on a "diet" except for my second pregnancy while I was trying to keep the weight of my second baby down so I could do a VBAC. He put me on a diabetic diet in spite of my negative glucose test during both pregnancies, but it worked (I did not follow it religiously, but in general). I had a 10 lb 3oz baby the first go round and on the diet I had a 8 lb 2 oz baby.
So if you try the Atkins thing let us know how it works for you.
Meg 12-29-2003 Monday, 10:09 AM I'm a big fan of South Beach...my mom and I started it together at the beginning of Nov. and I lost 10 lbs. in the first 2 weeks and then lost another 6 in the 2 weeks following. Once December started with all the holiday eating, I kind of fell off the wagon but have only gained 2 lbs. back. And that's with eating bread, pasta and desserts again. So I don't think it comes right back as long as you're careful with portion control. Anyway, we're starting up again today, so hopefully I'll finally reach my goal weight! I really recommend trying this if you're not a big exerciser (like me) and you want to drop those baby pounds. It works, and it's very easy. I thought it would be impossible to give up bread and pasta but now I don't even want them! Good luck.
Geree 12-29-2003 Monday, 10:32 AM This is something I have been thinking about also. I am really glad you posted this. I am a very large women and do not do well on diets. I have made up my mind that I am going to try the south beach diet and see how that works. I have got to do something so I can be a more active mom. I would love to see if anyone else needs this sort of thing and try to encourage each other. I have not done well in the past but this time I know I have to do it for my health. Let me know if anyone is interested in something like this.
Meg 12-29-2003 Monday, 10:35 AM That's why my mom and I did it together...it's SO much easier with someone to encourage you/keep an eye on you. It was so easy to resist that cookie or piece of bread when I knew my mom was watching! Sounds like she was mean about it, but she wasn't at all...it really helped me. I think having a partner/group to help with diet and exercise is such a good idea, because without that, I'd be much more tempted to slip up! :D
singinmama 12-29-2003 Monday, 10:35 AM My friend lost a ton of weight on atkins. I'm not sure how much but she went from a 14 to a 6 in a year. She walks on her treadmill, too. She eats sweets and some carbs now but really watches the portions. I don't even think she does it knowingly anymore, it's just become a way of life. It worked for her, but doesn't for all people. I'm a firm believer in finding what works for you and sticking to it. For some it just takes exercising on a regular basis. I know that I really just need to watch portions and exercise and I'm fine with weight. Of course I've never had to lose baby weight before so we'll see!
Billie 12-29-2003 Monday, 10:51 AM We do the south beach diet too. My dh and I have lost 30lbs each since August. I have totally fallen off the wagon since the holidays have begun. I have been munching like crazy :D because there is always something to munch and have only gained 5 lbs. We are going back to the 2 week purge as soon as we get back to Dallas. My father in law is a cardiologist and says it is the safest diet he has ever seen. He recomends it to all of his patients. He says it is very close to the ADA diet, but he likes it better, even for diabetics.
hannah 12-29-2003 Monday, 12:09 PM hi!
i started the atkins today, it feels weird!
egss for breakfast with mushrooms and cheese and for lunch a pork chop and a salad!
i WISH i could do this with DH, but literally, i could fit two of him in my pants right now, he's refusing to ever get on a scale but he cant weigh more than 120 pounds!!!!
once in awhile i get REALLY happy, and in the midst of jumping up and down i will pick him up.
i dont think he cares for that.
he cant gain, and i cant lose; we're the jack sprat and his pudgy wife of dallas!
well, wish me luck!
everything in the house except some meat, cheese and eggs is cereal, breakfast bars, pop-tarts and TONS of pasta!!!!!!
luzinsleep 12-29-2003 Monday, 08:46 PM I haven't done the Atkins diet in a long time. I DID start the Dr Phil plan when he began the weight loss challenge though. I can't believe I'm going to post this, but here goes.
When it all started, I weighed at least 206 pounds. When I weighed over the weekend, I was down to 183 pounds!!! That is with just following the basic guidelines and without anything too strict. I don't do well with "diets" but wanted to make a lifestyle change. I bought a size smaller in clothes this weekend - first time I've done that in over two years!!! It has been great for me!
Best of luck in whatever you try!!
hannah 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 08:19 AM You are such an inspiration!
I hope I can stick to it and experience the results and pleasure you are!
Julia 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 09:35 AM Awesome JULIE! Dr. Phil has been working for a lot of folks I know. I'm a big fan of his. His relationship rescue has helped us get through our rocky 11th year of marriage and given us a "kick in the pants" we needed this year. Very inspiring.
Cori 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 11:21 AM Hey Julie - congrats!!! New clothes and a new size to start the new year - way to go!
As far as diets, I admit I haven't read up much on Atkin's - but the people I know who are on it make it seem very scary to me. No fruits, very few veggies. Just tons of meat and cheese. I agree that American's eat too many carbs - but Atkin's (as far as I've seen it practiced by people I know) seems much too drastic. Carbs are very important to the body, like Julia said.
IMHO, I think more important is the quality of how you get your carbs. Whether you're eating bleached, processed whilte bread and instant rice, or eating whole grains, for example.
lAt our house, we eat lots of fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains, yogurt, cheese. We eat very little meat, and follow a more vegetarian-style diet for the most part. And we don't have sodas/candy/junk food in the house. I'm a fanatical label-reader. We eat almost all organic, whole foods at our house. We avoid artificial flavors/ colors/ preservatives/MSG, etc. We're a little more lax when we eat out.
I think the most important thing, whatever you choose to eat, is to choose healthy foods and eat in moderation, and get a good balence of carbs, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals and at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Cori 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 11:21 AM Oops. Double-post.
S&co. 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 11:31 AM I'm posting without reading all of the previous posts--I'll get to that in a minute but wanted to remind you really quickly of a couple of important facts:
1. Hannah will in no time be running all over the house and you'll be running after her. So you'll lose pounds from that activity.
2. Eating small meals along with her will help you lose weight.
3. eating healthily along with her will help you lose weight.
4. Eating healthily=mostly whole grains for fiber, plenty of greens for energy and vitamins, 2 servings of meat or b12 protein equivalents per day for muscle maintenance. No excess sugar is great, but carbs? Not sure that's a healthy things to cut back on when you consider that most of a healthy diet consists of 11-12 servings/day of complex carbs.
5. Exercising 3-4x week (walking!) is going to whittle your middle.
I'll shut up now and read the posts, which I could have read by now anyway. I just had to flap my gums fast before Ford grabbed me from the laptop :crap
Carol 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 02:21 PM Way to go, Julie! That's great to be able to go out and buy a smaller size.
I agree with Cori on the carbs issue. I think that it really depends on what kind of carbs you're eating. Whole grains are better than processed white bread or pop tarts and such. I always check how much fiber is in each slice of bread and bagels before buying it (at least 2 grams per slice or I don't buy it).
A couple of things have helped me with my weight control:
First, exercise! Weight lifting is great because you build muscle so your metabolism goes up. Even just trying to stay active throughout the day helps a lot.
Second, I don't buy certain foods that I know I'll have trouble staying away from. I rarely drink soda (just empty calories) and I rarely buy potato chips. I really don't care for soda so that isn't a biggie. If I buy potato chips, I could eat a big bag in just a few days so I prefer to not tempt myself. Just eliminating a few junk foods from the house helps me a lot.
Good luck. You need to find what works for you. A lifestyle change is really the best kind of "diet."
mommiematters 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 02:39 PM Just wanted to respond to some different things...
Eating more than 3 meals is a great idea. 5 to 6 is best.
Choosing the carbs you eat to be complex carbs are best. But 11 -12 a day is even double what the food pyramid has. That is a LOT!!!
Let me add real quick...I am by no means a dietician. They wouldnt allow me to be anyways for what I believe. LOL!!! But, I have done tons of research on this from every angle not just a low carb angle. Does that make my answer right....Of course not!!!
>>>but the people I know who are on it make it seem very scary to me. No fruits, very few veggies. Just tons of meat and cheese. <<<<
It is not a scary WOL by any means. It is truly a healthy way to live. You can have fruits and a huge variety of veggies. And no matter what we should be watching our portions. People get started and in the beginning they are eating tons of meat and cheese. Then over a week they notice they are actually eating less than they were when they were filling themselves up on carbs. Why?? Because they have the things that causes their cravings under control and they are eating fats which help curb your hunger.
>>>e eat almost all organic, whole foods at our house<<<
We do the same here. We also grow our own veggies during the summer time (all organic) and buy what we can during winter. We need to start growing extra in the summer to carry us through winter though. When I do have bread I eat either LC bread or 100% wheat or Ezekiel bread. I eat the same for my tortiallas.
Dr. Phils plan is a modified low carb plan also. It is just not as strict as Atkins. Any plan that has you eating less than 150 grams of carbs a day is a low carb plan.
I hope I have not offended anyone. I am just passionate about making sure people know the truth about Atkins. So many people tell stories about it and have either never read the book or they are telling what they have heard from others who havent read the book either.
S&co. 12-30-2003 Tuesday, 02:54 PM Mommiematters replied:
"But 11 -12 a day is even double what the food pyramid has. That is a LOT!!!"
Oops! Yep, the food pyramid does say 6-11 servings of carbs a day! I guess I factor in that extra serving per day for the 1 terribly sweet ration I usually deny myself :D
Bonny 12-31-2003 Wednesday, 12:03 AM I guess that I want to add that I don't believe eating should be a "way of life." It just doesn't have to be that complicated. Stick to healthy foods, moderate portions and excercise and those are complicated enough. I don't (personally) believe in counting calories to the tenth degree or stressing myself out over issues such as food when there are so many more important things to think about. I read somewhere, that "we eat to live, not live to eat" and this is as to the point as it comes.
I don't want to offend anyone because I did Atkins for a short period too, and it works great to work off those hard-to-lose pounds. But I don't belive it should be a "way of life."
Julia 12-31-2003 Wednesday, 09:07 AM I personally think that the issue in America is PORTION sizes. The sizes are triple what they were in the 50's. The bagles are even bigger, the restaurant plates are bigger. And food prep w/ all the fried foods and additives............I think that's the main problem here. Most Americans could just modify their current diet to adjust to healthier options and smaller portions can lose weight. A portion size should be the size of the palm of your hand as a rule and you are supposed to see the plate under your food. We are conditioned and are eating out more than ever due to time constraints.
Most of us as kids were harrassed at the table "clean your plate", "there are starving children in Africa" etc... We sit down at a table and the meal is not over until we see the bottom of that plate. I catch myself all the time and I have to tell myself STOP, you don't have to eat it ALL if your full. Take it home and eat leftovers for a meal tomorrow.
Dorothy 12-31-2003 Wednesday, 09:38 AM I am weighing in now!!
I personnaly believe that one of the main things is PORTION CONTROL and not eating so much junk candy and cokes!! My hubby said the reason I am thin is because I eat slow and small portions!! I have to remind him a lot that everything doesn't have to be finished :) And I never make my children eat all their food if they are full than that is good but they won't be allowed a dessert or a coke afterwards (Sometimes Zackary does this hmmm he is older so I think it is a control thing) anyways if we all just eat healthy and get our butts off the couch and move around we will all be healthy!! (Hope no one is offended!! )
Good luck with loosing weight and CONGRATS JULIA On loosing weight!!!!
Geree 12-31-2003 Wednesday, 09:46 AM I agree with you, it shouldn't be a way of life. I think It has to be a way of life for the ones of us that have alot of weight to lose. For so many years we have eaten wrong and might not know how to eat the correct way. I think it has to be a way of life for some because they have eaten this particular way and know they shouldn't eat fast food or the wrong foods. I think it has to be a way of life or they will not make it through this new way of eating.
Julie had it right on about Americans. I know I grew up thinking I had to clean my plate. That was drilled in me from the time I started eating. I think for me that is one small reason I am so over weight. I try not to tell my children that they have to clean there plate because I don't want to them to think that they have to. Me and my husband go round and round about the issue of cleaning there plate, he grew up this way also. The comment about more and more people going out to eat is also correct. Julie you are a very wise woman.
singinmama 12-31-2003 Wednesday, 09:53 AM Too much of what's not good for us!! My DH can't see the logic in NOT getting the double burger super sized. It's SO MUCH FOOD, but he thinks, "Oh, it's only 50 cents more so it's a deal." In America it's cheaper to eat junk food than good for you food. Fresh produce, whole grains, non processed, organic...they're all at a premium because if you want to eat healthy you'll pay what they charge. But sodas, candy, chips and fast food are cheap! No wonder America's overweight! It cost only a few cents more to have a HUGE meal of fat and fried food, but salads are the most expensive things on the menu! This drives me insane!!!
Chandra 12-31-2003 Wednesday, 10:56 AM Just wanted to mention that John Ritter didn't die of a heart attack but from Aortic Dissection which is an abnormal separation of tissues within the walls of the aorta caused by high blood pressure, family history of the condition, disease of connective tissue, or severe trauma to the chest.
John Ritter (http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/12/ritter.obit/)
Briannasmommy 01-04-2004 Sunday, 02:59 PM Wow! I have enjoyed reading everyone's view and experiences!
This is my two cents and my experience as well. I grew up eating tons of fruits, vegtables, seafood, juice, and water. Milk was available but was not too fond of it, lol. Oh yes, lots of rice and beans! I grew up in Nicaragua so that played a major role in the way I grew up eating.
Having said that, I DON'T beleive in diets. I have read The ATkins Diet book and I agree to a certain extent as so many other diet books including Body For Life. I am a strong beleiver in moderation(you don't have to count your calories either), eating healthy food and excersize. I do think that there are those that are unfortunate and are born with thyroid problems that make them obese and going on a diet will be their savior.
What has worked for me is staying away from sodas, candy, chips and fast food. Also excersize has become a big part of my life and mainly because I played soccer for 20 years!
I think some people can lose those last stubborn pounds by cutting those extra empy calories snacks!
I am by no means an expert on this but I wish everyone good luck in losing the weight they want to;) .

hannah 01-04-2004 Sunday, 05:01 PM hi gang!
well, look what i started huh?
what a great bunch of posts with some great stories and thoughts to share!
well, i have been on atkins for 7 days and i am stopping.
i dont think it's a bad WOE and i intend to continue a low carb regime as the 6 days were really easy for me, but i cant handle all this meat and cheese and eggs.
pardon me for saying this but i cant get my breath fresh enough and i am having poop issues!
basically it was a breeze though and im impressed that i so easily gave up sugar, breads, pasta and caffeine for a week.
so, im gonna wing it from here as i really wanted just a small half of a bagel with my lox this morning and it felt insane to be denying myself.
i will however, ask the waiter not to even bring that bread basket over when we go to macaroni grill tonight!
and i'll try to listen to my dh when he tells me i'm great just the way i am!
i just want to fit into those april cornell dresses in the back of the closet for next summer!!!
Bonny 01-04-2004 Sunday, 10:47 PM Congrats on your diet week Hannah. I know I only made it two weeks and barely at that. The bad breath is definitly a side effect of Atkins that I've heard about too. I think you did a great job and it taught me to not necessarily cut out carbs completely, but I do TRY to watch my bread intake. I'm just not such a big meat eater as it is and I try to eat small at breakfast and lunch anyways, so that part was really hard for me, having to make a full meal it seemed like everytime I needed to eat.
But, I think you did a great job. And that is very good advice, to try to listen to your husband when he tells you that you're perfect the way you are. I have had to accept this fact too. I'm not overweight, but I don't weigh what I did pre-children. And I hate the way my tummy looks and etc, etc, etc. But, I have learned to (usually) like the way I look, even if it's not perfect, or society's view of perfect, which is ridiculous anyway.
Sorry this turned into a novel here, congrats again! :D
Julia 01-05-2004 Monday, 09:06 AM I worked in Advertising guys and let me tell 'ya. Society HAS bought into the media hype of "beauty". And the media hype of "beauty" is NOT real. I've seen the most beautiful models altered on a computer to sell a product. Just ask Cindy Crawford, she has said many times "I look great in that cover, but it's not me".
The media, the diet and beauty industry would love for all of us to hate ourselves. Cha Ching!
I just have to look at my "pudge" of extra skin left after carrying two large babies and I know that it's a very small price to pay for these two beautiful kids......and I'd rather save the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) money for their college tuition. I am eight pounds heavier than high school, but things are a little ahhhm lower and distributed differently these days.
And these little lines on my face....why would I want to "freeze" them, how would I express to Lauren how amusing she is and how happy they make me.
Take care of yourselves YES, love yourselves absolutely.
Happy New Year!:balloons
hannah 01-05-2004 Monday, 09:28 AM Yes, and Yes again to both above posts!!!!!!!!!
TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 11:46 AM I agree with all the moderation talk. I rarely deny myself something that I want to eat. I can also relate to the post-baby pudge issue. After having 3 babies in 2 1/2 years, I don't know if my body will EVER recover! I recovered marvelously after Alex, but I was 23 years old. I definitely not even close to my high school size, but I was a RAIL back then. (5'9 and 115 lbs).
My biggest problem is just getting the time and motivation to exercise. I have very little ME time. My husband gave me a 3 mos membership to Kokopelli's (+$150 for spa services), but I have no idea when I can go use it!
Tei
hannah 01-05-2004 Monday, 12:03 PM For the first time since Audrey was born, Im starting to really feel a desire for some 'ME' time.
I've been thinking about takinga beginners yoga class one night a week, just an hour and a half away from home, doing something to relieve the back stress, breathing slowly, that sort of thing.....
Dinner out with a girlfriend would be almost too good to be true;
DH says 'Go For It' anyone wanna join me one of these nights, something life CAfe Express, or Mimi's? Doesnt have to be fancy!
TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 12:05 PM Hannah,
I have a sitter every Thursday night and my husband will be gone for 3 weeks starting on Sunday...so, I am available for the next 3 Thursdays starting next week!
Bonny 01-05-2004 Monday, 12:23 PM Hannah-I'd be up for that too. I can get my MIL to watch the boys while I have dinner or whatever. :)
Julia-you're so right about that society buying into beauty reply. It's really ridiculous and I'm by no means a cynic or one of those people who can't even look at magazines without getting depressed. It's all about knowing what's real and keeping things in perspective.
Did anyone see that short special on Entertainment Tonight about that woman who was anorexic and she used to be a tv reporter? I won't comment here on the anorexia, but I did find it interesting that she CONSTANTLY spoke of how magazine cover models and actresses looked compared to herself. I just found it amazing that she honestly believed that people looked like that and she could too. It takes an army of beauty specialists to get someone to look that way and I felt really sorry for this woman because she was never going to be good enough. I read somewhere that only 1% of the entire world's population were famous and that is how rare it is to look even close to those people, that put it in perspective a little for me.
Well, I'll stop ranting now...
Just want to add a disclaimer that I'm not against dieting, especially for health reasons. :)
juliema 01-05-2004 Monday, 12:34 PM Hannah - You know I'm always up for a weeknight out! Count me in. :)
Julie
hannah 01-05-2004 Monday, 12:40 PM FABU!
Let's think of a Thursday evening then, maybe around 7 when we can all sit down and take a load off and share a meal!
Can I suggest Cafe Express in Plano on Frankford and Preston?
At CE we can eat healthy and spend under $10 each and no worries about figuring out the tab at the end as it's counter service.
TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 01:04 PM I LOVE Cafe Express...works for me!
hannah 01-05-2004 Monday, 01:21 PM you know, i havent been out more than 3 times without the baby, and never for anything fun like this!
maybe a once a month supper-club for gals will happen, i would love it!
Mara 01-05-2004 Monday, 01:31 PM I haven't been out without Zoë yet. (unless you count my one trip to the grocery store when hubby watched her!)

TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 01:33 PM At Zoe's age, it is difficult to get away alone and not really necessary as far as distraction to other people! If you don't want to leave her behind, bring her....I am sure we would all LOVE to pass around a precious little one! (mine are past the passing around stage :rolleyes )
TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 01:33 PM Would next week work?
Briannasmommy 01-05-2004 Monday, 02:02 PM COUNT ME IN! I LOVE Cafe Express! They have yummy dishes and the prices aren't bad considering they give you a lot sometimes.
Either John can watch Brianna or our nanny can come out for a couple of hours till John gets home. I too crave for me time and I have been getting out more often without Brianna lately. I know when baby number 2 is here, not preggo yet, it won't be as easy!
How about the Cafe Express on Legacy and the Tollroad. Is that closer to anyone or the one down on Frankfurt?
Either one is fine with me. Just let me know when is a good time.
Nina
Mara 01-05-2004 Monday, 02:10 PM Oooo a nanny! I want one of those for Christmas!
Seriously tho, how does having one work? I've got another friend in Dallas who has a nanny that comes and stays with her son while she is at work.
I'm new to all this childcare stuff! (and nosy!)
I don't want to come with Zoë and ruin the mommy only time! She doesn't go long between feedings in the evenings. She often likes to cluster feed before sleep!
Mara :)
Julia 01-05-2004 Monday, 02:35 PM I would LOVE to go! I'll have to wait and see what day/time you choose, and see if my hubby will be in town or even be able to watch the kids. He spends am's with us but is rarely home in time for dinner, so evenings are hard for me to swing. But you never know....maybe I'll get lucky, sometimes it works out (usually when my mom is visiting).
My sitter money goes to PreK so my "me" time is M&W 9:30-2 if anyone is ever free for the lunch hour.
S&co. 01-05-2004 Monday, 02:45 PM Julia, I'd love to see you again, but let me get Ford in school first. My daytimes are booked by Ford. (Not that it's a bad thing, but a stage we're both ready to curtail for better reasons .:)
Everyone else, are you talking this Thursday, the uh, 8th? If so, then Preston and Frankford is just down the road, making it alltogether mandatory I come! So long as I know the time by Wednesday night, I can warn Damon to be home by then on Thursday.
There are so many of you whom I haven't met yet, so I'm looking forward to it!
Bonny 01-05-2004 Monday, 03:16 PM Looking forward to it. I'll keep checking this to watch for a date we all decide on so I can have a sitter lined up for the kids if Jake's not home in time.
I've never been to Cafe Express before-Stephanie you know how it is out here in the sticks. Not too many restaurant choices.
Maybe I could follow someone who lives around there?
TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 03:22 PM either location works for me. I am closer to legacy and the tollway, but I dont' mind driving to Frankford (especially if we have someone willing to drive up from the outer edges of the universe ;) )
I think we were talking about next week....at least I was because of my sitter. I will have to sit out this week if you meet.
dreaming 01-05-2004 Monday, 03:39 PM Hi, I am new to this board and was wondering if a newbie who is still preggo could join y'all. I really don't know to many people around here with babies and this is my first so I would love to get to meet some new people and develope some new friends.

TeriMomof4 01-05-2004 Monday, 03:55 PM of course you can join us dreaming!
I just found out that I CAN do this Thursday. My husband is leaving for California tomorrow and coming back Friday. This will mean he will be gone for 25 days this month (considering this is the 5th, it doesn't leave much time for the rest of the month, does it?)
So, this Thursday?
hannah 01-05-2004 Monday, 04:05 PM OR bring her and dont feel bad if you dont feel comfortable passing her around! i wanted to say that because i didnt want to hand audrey to anyone when she was three months old, so i stayed in alot!
it's ok of you are concerned about germs.....or you might not be anything like worry-wort-ish me and then, never mind!
