ChickieShannon 12-05-2005 Monday, 04:58 PM My pastor's wife shared this idea with me and I thought it was really sweet. Since we focus so much attention on our children at Christmas time we should do something sweet for our DH's, too. It's called 12 Days of Christmas and starting on Dec. 13 you leave a slip of paper that says *On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me a partridge in a pear tree* (and etc. for each day). The 12th slip of paper will end on Christmas Eve. So anyways, with each slip of paper leave a small gift and maybe even write a sweet short message to your DH. I'm going to leave this out every morning for my DH to find by his coffee pot. Then my pastor's wife said the next year she gave her DH an envelope containing the 12 slips of paper for her DH to do for HER! :D Sounds great to me! :lol
Anyways, I need help with ideas for gifts under $5. Can you help? So far I have...
-a small framed picture of me and Kaleigh from Nicole's session for DH's desk
-a $5 Starbucks gift card
-a Reese's PB cup
-a coffee mug
Any other ideas? Thanks!
ETA: I've added a document I made with the 12 slips of paper. You need to cut the paper every 3 inches for the slips (so that the slips are 8-1/2" wide by 3" tall). Hope this helps! I just made my set to give to DH to do for me this year! ;)
Julia 12-05-2005 Monday, 05:21 PM Does he like gum?
Coupon for massage (from you)
Chapstick? My dh uses it all the time
A CD of "mixed tunes". I still call it a Mixed Tape
Armor all wipes for his car - don't all men love their cars?
Nice Pen from Staples/Office Depot
Love note
One night/day "off" from having to do anything coupon
A Car airfreshener....okay, I'm grasping now

kyleeaadd 12-05-2005 Monday, 05:25 PM One night/day "off" from having to do anything coupon
This is a great one for you to do , Shannon!!
I did this for our anniversary. I made a booklet of different coupons for him to use throughout the year. He has enjoyed them a lot. Free nights out with his friends, sexual ones (strip tease from me, naked massage, etc.):blush, one that says he can buy anything he wants (under a certain amount of course) without discussing it with me, free massage from me, etc, free poker night at home with friends with out me or Brady here.....and some others I made up.
Dorothy 12-05-2005 Monday, 05:26 PM How about Hersey Kisses :D
Two candy canes tied together to make a Hear :D
A pack of Altoid mints (if he likes them??)
I will think of more Maybe!!
Great idea BTW
angie 12-05-2005 Monday, 06:04 PM Great idea!!
You could always also look in the Target $1 area to see if they have any men things right now. I know they occationally have little tool stuff and things men could use.

I only need 1 more idea! Thanks, ladies! Kylee, I've done the coupon book before. Same ideas as yours. It was fun! :) I just wish he'd make ME a coupon book! :lol
Shirelle 12-06-2005 Tuesday, 09:22 AM I went out and bought some stuff for dh last night :)
I got him a package of Rollos, a farmer's almanac, a new thermos for his coffee, socks, cinnamon altoids, a guide to Texas fishing, a cheap VHS Movie, a package of pens, and some cheap Cigars, and I'm going to do two coupons---one for a chicken fried steak dinner, and then one for a night off---Shannon thanks for the great idea--dh will love it!
I think I might actually give him to him on the actual twelve days of Christmas, though.
Misty 12-06-2005 Tuesday, 09:52 AM I LOVE this idea!!!! I am stealing it!

angie 12-07-2005 Wednesday, 11:59 AM I bet you could find some stuff at Spencers!
That is what that link made me think of, LOL. I was just in Spencers the other day with a friend I had met for lunch and shopping. We had the best time laughing about all the funny stuff they have in there. I hadn't been in that store in forever.
ChickieShannon 11-26-2006 Sunday, 09:06 PM Just wanted to give this a :bump from last year.
This year I'm handing DH an envelope with 12 pieces of paper so he can gift me! :lol
ChickieShannon 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 01:01 AM :bump I added an attachment to my OP. :D
Susie 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 08:43 AM How cool!
HeatherMama 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 08:52 AM This is the first time I've seen this Shannon. Thanks for bumping it up. Great idea! I cant ever do enough for my honey!
Meg 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 08:55 AM I did this for Anthony last year and was surprised when he said something about needing to finish his "12 Days" shopping the other day....totally unprompted! Good hubby! :lol I'm doing it for him again, too. It's really a fun challenge to find 12 good presents, and he got such a kick out of it last year (he was traveling for some of it so took the presents with him and he said it was so nice to have them to open while he was OOT).
It's fun to do with a friend, too. :) Mara and are all set to start on the 14th. LOL
Cara 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 08:56 AM Cool idea! I never saw this last year!
I thought the 12 days of Christmas began after Christmas and went to Jan 6th
Any more ideas for gifts?
vegmama 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 09:11 AM Great idea! I know my husband would appreciate this so much. He's been working a ton lately and I know he's exhausted and hating getting up at 4:30 every morning! Maybe this would give him something to look forward to when he does get up :thumbup

Yeah, I guess technically it starts the day of Christmas but I like to do it this way. You can do it however you like. :)
dcafamily 12-05-2006 Tuesday, 10:31 PM Thanks for bumping this thread up. It's a great idea that I am looking forward to starting this year. Dh needs an extra boost this time of year from all his traveling and overtime.
Thanks again :)

I wonder how fast the shipping is on this. What a halarious white elephant gift!
twoplusone 12-27-2006 Wednesday, 02:37 PM I am doing this now with dh. I was not on the ball enough to do it earlier and knowing him he would tell me everyday it was not the "real" 12 days. I am having such a hard time coming up with gifts!! He has no hobbies or interests besides LSU (can't get stuff like that here very easily) and he does not chew gum, eat mints, etc. So far I gave him the Charlie Brown Christmas CD, a little community coffe pack and a candy bar, a book about daddies and daughters, tomorrow he will get a pack of new dress socks, and I have an eyeglass cleaner thing. I still have a lot to buy!!! And no ideas what to get. We are headed out again tomorrow to look for some more things.
Thanks for the idea Shannon! As hard a time as I am having dh was very surprised and happy about it.
hollyf 12-27-2006 Wednesday, 03:06 PM I did this but could NOT think of anything to get for him so he got a lot of candy (which he loves) and he says he didn't mind, he just thought it was sweet of me to do!!!!!
Cara 12-27-2006 Wednesday, 03:32 PM I'm doing this with DH right now as well.
Here is the list of things that he has gotten or is getting:
1-Almond Joy
2-Massage (from me) coupon
3-Magazine
4-Lotto Tickets
5-Journal
6-Cashews
7-Pens/notepad
8-book
9-Love note
10-Snickers with Almonds
11-Date night coupon
12- Photo frame
Some of the items cost more than $5.00, but all were less than $10.00
Danielle-My DH is a LSU nut as well, but you knew that. I know it does not help you for this year, but www.tygergifts.com and www.coopbookstore.com are 2 places that I usually order LSU stuff from for DH.
