Billie 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 02:31 PM We took Job in to the pediatrician this morning for this cough and congestion that has been going on for the last 6 weeks. We finally got our referal to a pulmonologist, but our poor little guy has to go in for some not so fun tests this coming week. He has a sweat test tomorrow morning at Children's and he had a chest X ray this afternoon that wasn't so fun. He has gone from the 90th% to the 25th% in weight in the last month, but he is eating like crazy, so the pediatrician is getting a little concerned. Please keep him in your prayers, as I know that he will not be happy with the testing coming up. Thanks.
TeriMomof4 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 02:53 PM Oh my goodness, Billie! I am so sorry. Poor little guy. Did they see anything on the x-ray?
Monette 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 03:20 PM Poor thing! Hope it's nothing serious!
How in the world do they do a sweat test?
S&co. 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 04:12 PM Goodness, Job. I'm praying that the tests not only go more smoothly than today, but that the results don't confirm anything serious. Billie, I know it's just as scary for you. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
Meg 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 04:28 PM Oh my little Jobers! Poor guy! I'll be thinking of you guys and hoping things are going well. Keep us posted! Oh, and can I help my babysitting the other two, since we live so close?
Mara 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 06:11 PM I'll be thinking of you! Hope they figure it out and he gets well soon!

Meg 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 06:18 PM OK, above it was supposed to say, "help BY babysitting" and I'm serious, girl! Call me if you need me. 214-987-4103
Julia 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 08:21 PM I'll be praying for you guys and little Job.
Billie 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 09:18 PM Thanks guys. It is a little scary. A sweat test tests for cystic fibrosis and even though we are realtively sure he doesn't have that, it is still scary that they need to test for it. His test is tomorrow morning and it is an itchy hold ya' down kinda test. They attach 2 electrodes to your upper arm and run a mild current. They then collect the sweat you produce on a sterile gauze and check your sodium levels. I know this isn't exactly a very technical description, but I think this is the basic method behind it. The electrodes itch and they have to hold you down (no fun for an almost 8 month old). Then we have to be there until they collect enough sweat. Just pray he sweats enough the first time.
The chest Xray was this afternoon and it seemed to go well. Andrew took him in for it because the lazy xray tech didn't want to go get a smock thingy. I told him there was NO way I was pregnant, but he said it's policy for all women of childbearing age to wear one. :mad SO I listned to him cry from behind the door. Poor little man. We won't find out about that test until later, maybe next week. They are checking to see if he is aspirating (breathing in food).
Thanks again, you guys are great! Andrew is staying home with the kids tomorrow complements of Bob the Builder and Dora ;) I hate to let TV babysit, but he has a TON of work to do and it is all due this Friday. I think he will be fine though, and I know the kids will enjoy the extra TV time.
Rachel 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 09:33 PM Poor Baby! I hope all is ok. He doesn't seem small or under weight to me. He seems just perfect. I will definitely be praying for him.
Bonny 12-17-2003 Wednesday, 09:56 PM So sorry to hear you guys are going through this. I wish there was more we could all do, but I will definitly be thinking of you and your baby, hoping everything turns out okay. :(

Meg 12-18-2003 Thursday, 06:41 PM Billie, how did it go today? Any news? We were thinking of you....
Billie 12-18-2003 Thursday, 09:26 PM Well, after all day at Children's He didn't sweat enough. Wait, that is such a total understatement. He didn't sweat AT ALL! UURRGHH. There is no end to this. Now we will have to wait until after the holidays and do alternative tests with blood work which is even less fun for Job. The good thing is that he pretty much slept right through everything. It was nap time and I nursed him and put him in his sling and he just slept the whole time. When we did this with Nate, he screamed and tried to scratch the whole time. We ended up having to put his arm in a splint to stop him. I am so glad that Job was so mellow today. Thank you all for your prayers and please keep us in your thoughts as we begin this whole testing process.
singinmama 12-18-2003 Thursday, 10:06 PM So sorry to hear things are not going well! I'm hoping for only the best on these tests.
S&co. 12-18-2003 Thursday, 10:38 PM Oh, thank goodness today went allright. But what an itch to have to wait until after the holidays for more testing. I'm so sorry, Billie.
I will continue to keep Jobbers in my prayers. I guess just try to let go of anticipations during the holidays, and enjoy the time together. I know it might be hard, but you've got a lot of us praying for you to help you through. ((HUGS))
BabyBellasmom 12-18-2003 Thursday, 11:32 PM I'm sorry to hear about all of this! I hope everything works out. Your family is in my prayers. :grouphug
