I mean, I know it comes in a jar, and where to get it. But is it just melted down marshmallows? Could you melt down marshmallows and get marshmallow cream? I need Marshmallow cream for a recipe, but I don't have any--but I DO have marshmallows :scratch

I don't think you get the same "flavor" by melting down marshmallows. From my understanding, the cream is more flavorful than melted down marshmallows. I hope this helps :)

You could try melting the marshmallows with some butter. It's not the same as marshmallow cream, but it sure is yummy.

My jar of marshmallow fluff ( a staple in the northeast, those fluff-n-nutter sandwiches)ingredients say...contains corn syrup, sugar, dried egg white, vanillin. I'm thinking marshmallow fluff is the same as marshmallow cream??????

You got my curiosity up. Here's what I found:
http://www.ochef.com/915.htm
From http://www.baking911.com/pantry/other.htm: MARSHMALLOWS: Marshmallows, unlike its cousins in a jar (Marshmallow Creme), are 'puffed' and rolled in corn starch. They basically contain the same ingredients depending upon manufacturer.
and from http://www.idontcook.com/Substitutions.htm: To make your own marshmallow creme (marshmallow fluff ) Gently heat 16 ounces of marshmallows plus 1/4 cup corn syrup in a double boiler, stirring constantly.
Hope that helps.

I was just telling Chris about fluffer-nutter sandwiches this weekend. Yummy. One of the joys of my childhood.
