Does anyone know anyplace in the area that offers prenatal water aerobics? I have been searching everywhere on the internet but haven't had any luck.

Thanks!

I'd check your local YMCA. I'll bet that even if the class isn't exclusively prenatal, it might certainly be adaptable to your needs with the guidance of a teacher. Good luck and let us know what you find!

Medical Center of Plano. I'm not sure about the other hospitals. I would think they would too.

Thanks guys! That makes me wonder if Baylor of Grapevine offers it as well. I am actually a member of the YMCA in Coppell and they do have water aerobics, but they only have two kinds deep water, and senior. I have heard you shouldn't do deep water when you're pregnant and the senior is a bit too easy for my taste (i.e. raising your arms in and out of the water etc.). I am definately going to look into both these hospitals. Thanks so much!

I just went to the Shallow End class at the Oak Point center here in Plano. You don't get the bonding with other pregnant women, but the workout was nice and it is closer than going into Dallas. I know the Tom Laundry center near Baylor has prenantal water aerobics. http://www.bhcs.com/aboutus/BaylorTomLandryCenter.pdf
This was too far for me, but the instructor I met seemed nice.

I also did prenatal yoga. This was the best thing ever! I can't imagine having gone through my pregnancy without it. I had a pretty easy pregnancy and I'm convinced it is because of the yoga. If you want information on the classes I took, let me know.

Prenatal yoga is awesome. All Yoga is awesome. If you aren't into the spiritual side of Yoga, you can get tapes like yoga for dummies to do at home. It is simple and there is no meditation. It really helps with fexibility and your back feels like a $ million when your finished!

I agree about the prenatal yoga. I'm taking it right now, and I adore it. I did it when I was pregnant with Julian too, and I think it really prepares you for labor and childbirth.

Yoga is such a wonderful thing to do pregnant or not.

Where is pre-natal yoga offered? I would love to do this.

Okay, so what if you're really a tightwad like me right now, and the only yoga I'm able to take is a regular yoga class offered at the (Plano) YMCA (where we already belong)? I'm only in the first trimester....my body's not yet a pear, and I could probably do what I'm physically capable of doing, unless it hurt. Any suggestions or even words of warning?

Make sure the instructor is certified to teach prenatal yoga. If they are, even if you're in a "normal" yoga class, they can give you variations on poses. Many yoga positions are contraindicated for pregnancy. Prenatal yoga instructors are well-versed in keeping the blood flowing (and getting lots of oxygen) to the baby.

Or, you can always get a prenatal yoga video. I have (and Steph - you are more than welcome to borrow it) Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea. It has different positions/modifications on poses for each of the 3 trimesters.

Max_smom....I started a new thread for info on prenatal yoga classes.

I, too, was going to tell you about the prenatal yoga tape by Shiva Rea. That is the one I used while pregnant and it was great. I still used it a little after the baby was born. Now I still do yoga at the gym I go to. It keeps you moving on those stiff uncomfortable days.

As far as the water aerobics, my OB suggested a class when I was pregnant, but I don't remember where it was. Just ask your OB if he/she knows of a place.

I don't suppose any of you:
a.) are members of the Plano YMCA
b.) feel like meeting me regularly to swim laps?
c.) bonus points for being pregnant, too, and also wanting to exercise together.

Just had to ask. I have a feeling everyone's pretty spread out across DFW!
I'd just love to have some company to look forward to meeting with, when I go work out (and to help me stay regular at it!)
