How much do you spend on the Holidays?nicholle&w&p 11-19-2005 Saturday, 01:30 PM for presents texas1010 11-19-2005 Saturday, 03:03 PM Do you mean immediate family? Or extended family too? All together it's $500 to $1000. We have a big big family and they won't go for drawing names. Darn! nicholle&w&p 11-19-2005 Saturday, 03:24 PM the whole family extended as well.... Danielle 11-19-2005 Saturday, 04:04 PM We are spending well over $1000 this year. We both have large families (that keep growing) and no one wants to draw names in our families either. Bonny 11-19-2005 Saturday, 05:09 PM Well over $2000 for both our families, including ourselves and our kids. We draw names on his side, but not mine. Shirelle 11-19-2005 Saturday, 05:47 PM We spend $300-ish We only buy for who we see, LOL. That's just the way it's done in our family. And my dad and I have agreed that we pretty much just buy for the kids. I have a really big extended family, and none of us is rich, so we keep it simple. Shannon 11-19-2005 Saturday, 06:24 PM Probably over $1000. DH has two siblings, both married, plus his parents, one niece & a nephew on the way (maybe before Christmas, we're not sure yet). I have my parents, brother, his gf of 6 years, my godparents and goddaughter and adopted grandma. And that doesn't even begin with the two of us and our kiddos. He wants an XBox 360 and I have my eye on a few things as well. angie 11-19-2005 Saturday, 06:36 PM I voted other, because I have NO idea how much we are going to spend. Michelle&Danny 11-19-2005 Saturday, 09:20 PM Too Much! Krysta 11-19-2005 Saturday, 09:31 PM Too Much! :yeah I ahve no idea. I started pretty early this year, and have no idea what I've spent so far. I anticipate another $300 or so on the kids, plus me and dh have to buy for each other, and then our 4 nieces, both of our dads and his mom. Then maybe my brother, his brother, and SIL. Whew. Wow. I would sat $500 *minimum*. Probably more. RIjanet 11-19-2005 Saturday, 09:32 PM I'm voting other because I too have no idea how much I'm spending. I've been buying all year long and throwing it (literally) into the closet. For the past week I've been saying to myself, I've really got to go through that closet to see what I have for people! Let's see how long it takes, there are probably duplicates in there! Monette 11-19-2005 Saturday, 11:08 PM Under $100 for us this year. Money's tight so I'll be checking out the dollar stores. Our kids have way too many toys anyway and some of G's toys will be handed down to L & M. At this age they won't know the difference. DiscoLemonade 11-19-2005 Saturday, 11:25 PM It depends. About 500. Julia 11-20-2005 Sunday, 08:19 AM 'm voting other because I too have no idea how much I'm spending. I've been buying all year long and throwing it (literally) into the closet. For the past week I've been saying to myself, I've really got to go through that closet to see what I have for people! Let's see how long it takes, there are probably duplicates in there! Yeah, me too. We have a HUGE extended family and I have to start buying in July during sales and stocking it in the attic/closet. Melanie 11-20-2005 Sunday, 01:06 PM I have a big family but we only buy for the youngest generation then of course siblings, parents, grandparents, husband/wife, and children. I also have a rule to only buy for people that I see. I have a cousin that always shows up on Christmas and her birthday, totally MIA the rest of the year. She doesn't give presents but totally expects to get them. I found out a month ago that she is having a baby (due the end of December) and the poor thing will probably grow up with next to nothing and have not so great a life so I'll buy for him regardless of how often he shows up. brooksy 11-20-2005 Sunday, 08:18 PM we normally spend about 500 to 1000...but i put other for this year...because i have a feeling ryan got me a new computer or camera...and i am trying to hook him up with an x box 360....normally we do really cheap for ourselves...so this year we are going to splurge... simplyme 11-20-2005 Sunday, 09:56 PM I shop year round for xmas and birthday presents. I am always checking out the end caps at target where they have the clearance items and the walmart clearance items. when i see something on clearance that fits one of my family member's personalities, collections or whatever they are into i buy it. by the time xmas rolls around or someone's birthday' , i've always got something for them that truly "fits" them and i didn't just run out and buy something cause i had to have a gift. 99.9% of the gifts i find are $10 and under on clearance but their retail value is usually double, triple or even 4 times that. May sound "cheap" to some people, but we're tight on money too. my son is loaded with toys and stuff because i shop yard sales for him so he really needs nothing for xmas, plus his b'd ay is in nov. so he's just gotten a load of stuff. He gets 3 presents for xmas just like Jesus did, that keeps it simple, not too costly and not overwhelming for him. i usually find his things on clearance also and just keep them hidden away for a few months. this year he's so into puppets and puppet shows. when shannon shared her target $ spot puppets with her, i got those for him and will be making him a puppet theater that goes between a door frame. you use fabric and tension rods. real easy, cheap and loads of fun!! jessjillbolyer 11-21-2005 Monday, 08:31 AM I picked $0-$100 we aren't buying anything this year!! So we are spending $0! :D DallasMommies 11-21-2005 Monday, 01:55 PM I give presents to children who still believe in Santa and/or the magic of Christmas - they don't understand that this is mainly a commercial holiday, and they should continue to enjoy the festivities. Adults are another story. I hate that stores make you feel obligated to buy-buy-buy at Christmas, racking up your credit cards on "stuff" while perpetuating the cycle of greed. I was raised to be thankful for time spent with family at the holidays, not an expectation of numerous expensive gifts. I will continue to donate money/goods/services to those who need it, no matter what season it is. That is the spirit of gift giving (and Christmas!) I hope to instill in my own child. shellykyleigh 11-22-2005 Tuesday, 08:32 PM I have a large family, but we do draw names, so that helps. Kyleigh is an only child...she is spoiled...and YES it's my fault! :duh I end up spending anywhere from $500 to $1000! UGH! |
