New mom

Hi,

My name is Colette and I am a new SAH mom in Plano. Our little boy, Caleb, is 6 weeks old. He is super cute and I love being his mom. I am, however, getting a little lonely. I was laid off last Nov and found out I was pregnant in Jan, so I never went back to work. Being home and pregnant was fine. I guess it was different because I was either sleeping or still hanging out with my "childless" friends. I am looking for other moms to bond with and this website was suggested to me. (Thank you Jen E.) I look forward to meeting you all. I don't know how much Caleb can really participate in play dates right now, but I know I welcome them. Right now playing for him is me playing and him looking at me with a puzzled face. :)

Hi Colette! :wave Welcome! My name is Meg. I'm a SAHM to my son Jackson who is just about 17 months. Playdates are as much (if not more ;)) for the moms as for the kiddos, so even if Caleb isn't participating much yet, it would still be a great way to meet other moms and get some "adult" conversation. We usually try to meet up about once a week, sometimes in Dallas and sometimes up North, although with the holidays coming, things are a little less predictable. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see you at a playdate soon!

Hi! I'm Bonny, SAHM to two boys, Tristan 4 and Jackson 15 months. I remember those days of having a tiny baby around but they didn't really play yet. All I can say is, enjoy these days cause when they hit I think a year, or at least start walking, there's no turning back (or sitting down).
Welcome to the boards! :)

Welcome! I had a difficult time transitioning to being a mom after I quit working. It takes time to learn that it's okay to slow down and enjoy. Your doing a good thing by searching for people in the same situation. Glad you found the board.

I'm Julia, 34, SAHM to Lauren 4 YO and Ian 22MO we live in Plano w/ my hubby of 11yrs John.

Enjoy!

Welcome! I'm Carol, mom to Teddy (22 mos) and another on the way in Feb. The playdates are for the mommies to get some adult conversation too. Enjoy those now while your baby is young--it won't be that long and you'll spend a good part of the playdates chasing after your little boy. ;)

Hi Colette!

Welcome!!

We're in Plano too (really close to Frisco). Congrats on your little one! My duaghter is now 15 mo. old and I've loved being able to stay at home with her, true it's a change when you're used to working outside your home and actually interacting with other people!
When my daughter was about 3 mo. old we enrolled in a Kindermusik class here in Plano and loved it!! Even though she was so little I think she got a lot out of it- I think you can take in newborns as well. Anway, just an idea.

Well, glad you've joined us!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I look forward to meeting everyone, maybe after the New Year starts.

I took Caleb to a preview Gymboree class today. It seemed a little advanced for him. I think it is because they were at the end of a session and most of the babies were about to transition into the next class up. He enjoyed the first part of the class. Poor thing got tired halfway through, though. He just buried his head in my chest and went to sleep. The other babies looked like they were having a great time. I can't decide if I want to take him back for a full session starting in Jan. Have any of you done the Gymboree classes? What did you think of them?

Colette, I started Gymboree with Jackson when he was 12 mos. I think before they're crawling (or at least a little mobile), the classes are more for parents to chat than for the babies to learn anything. So it's up to you whether you're enjoying it enough to pay for a full session! Good luck!

I took Lauren from 18 months to 3 years of age, then we signed up for soccer and we do that now. She LOVED it. We had a wonderful teacher and it we did alot of motor development (which Lauren needed, she had great fine motor but was behind on gross motor).

I did Kindermusik with her also from 12 mos to 2 yrs. At age 2 she totally lost interest and wanted to be ACTIVE. There was too much structure at Kindermusik for her. I enjoyed the time we spent there though.

My son is not good in Large groups and is very independent, so I have him in PreK this year (started at 20 mo) two days a week, 9:30-2. Lauren goes MWF 9"30-2.
Lauren started MDO at age 23 months, I was pregnant with Ian and needed some me time and she needed some socialization.

Good luck with whatever program you decide on. My Gym looks like a fun program. I've been to playgroups and bday parties there and it seemed like fun. Also I have friends that loved the ASI gymnastics programs. We may do that this Jan (I don't do soccer in the winter - yuck)

I've written a book here, so I'll stop rambling now.

Hey there, and welcome!

I have a suggestion for ya. MOPS!

Mothers Of Preschoolers is an amazing Christian-based moms group. It's not preachy, and the fellowship of the others moms is absolutely amazing. We have 3 hours of food, fellowship and fun 2 times a month.

See if there's a MOPS near you.

Hi Colette,
I'm Billie mama to Ela (4), Nate (2) and Job (7 mos). It'll be great to meet you at a playdate soon. It is ok if your little guy just hangs out during playdates, it'll be good for you to get some adult interaction too ;) We'd love to have ya'.

Cathy - which MOPS group do you go to?

Hi Colette,

I'm Stephanie, wife to Damon and SAHM to a 2 year old son named Ford, and we live in north Dallas, close to Plano. It's nice to meet you!

You are going through a quicker transition to motherhood than I, following work. It took me months to slow down after quitting dental school to start a family (and to get away from a career I wasn't sure I enjoyed), and not without the help of a head shrink and antidepressants. As Julia said earlier, it takes us a long time to learn to slow down after having a career (or school, which was my "career" I guess, at the time). But you indeed have so much now to slow down and enjoy! Congratulations to you.

I'm glad you sought us out, and hope that you use every opportunity to get together for group support, if not for some "socialization" for Caleb ;)
It's all about the kids AND their mom's concerns, too.
