Any suggestions?

So far we've mostly stuck with the crossover hold for breastfeeding, but I really like the side-lying one since it lets me doze. :) However, maneuvering for burping and re-latching-on is a bit tricky. Any suggestions on how to manage that? Right now I've just got a pillow under my head and at my back and a rolled up cloth diaper behind Charlotte's back to keep her on her side.

I don't think I ever quite did the laying down position with Ellie until she was about 2 months, only because she had such a hard time latching. I don't remember ever having trouble burbing her. Come to think of it. Unless she squirmed or had a bottle, by that point I did not really burp her. Wow, that doesn't sound for maternal but she didn't seem to need it. Isn't it great to sleep and nurse at the same time. Sure beats trying to keep a bottle in her mouth and keep your eyes open. I remember when i came to visit my little niece Rachel when she was first born and helping my sis with a midnight feeding. I kept falling asleep and waking up with the nipple on Rachel's neck. Poor baby. Auntie was just too tiered.

I always just rolled my little one onto my chest to burp them and then I would roll them onto the other side to continue.

Ditto Billie.
Although, they didn't seem to need burping so much during those nighttime feedings...or I didn't need to burp or something :o
Breastfeeding in sidelying was the greatest in VT...both girls were born in the fall....and kept me warm all winter :D

Julian didn't like me to do the lying-down thing until he was about 6 or 8 weeks. He just needed to burp a lot! Then he didn't need to burp so much anymore, and just got comfy with the idea of nursing lying down. I was so relieved at that point, because I started getting more sleep.

I loved the side lying also. I did that from day one with both of mine. It just seemed easier. I did not stop for burping either, just rolled over for the other side. Enjoy these early cuddle days........awwww. This is perfect cuddle weather.:love

Deja vu. I had the same technique (lying down) with Ford from very early on. I remember getting up to burp in the night, but less frequently than during the day. I don't remember that phase lasting long; I think he got the hang of it (as most babies might) during the night and nursing him then became cake compared to daytime nursing (which really wasn't difficult at all, just full of distractions). Bottom line: enjoy!

Thanks for all of the advice! We'll get the hang of it! :)
