H1N1 QuestionCindy 10-03-2009 Saturday, 04:37 AM Those who have school-aged children who have been diagnosed, how long are doctors asking to keep kids home? jendw 10-03-2009 Saturday, 06:14 AM For us, our pediatrician said one week. alisah 10-03-2009 Saturday, 07:15 AM I've heard one week as well Abbie 10-03-2009 Saturday, 08:33 AM Our school's website says to keep an infected child home for a full 7 days even if they're better before that. Also, it says to keep them home for 5 days from the time another person in the household started showing symptoms....even if the child is well. Shirelle 10-03-2009 Saturday, 11:35 AM Wow, Abbie. I called our principal on Tuesday and let her know that we had a household member with a confirmed case of it, and she said to still bring Ethan if he didn't have any symptoms. He went to school this whole week. cadencolemom 10-03-2009 Saturday, 11:46 AM Our dr said once they are fever free for 24 hrs RenCareBear 10-03-2009 Saturday, 07:14 PM I don't know the answer to the question, but isn't it odd how their isn't a protocol that they are all following? Abbie 10-03-2009 Saturday, 07:34 PM Wow, Abbie. I called our principal on Tuesday and let her know that we had a household member with a confirmed case of it, and she said to still bring Ethan if he didn't have any symptoms. He went to school this whole week. Yikes! You'd think they'd be more cautious. :( No wonder it's spreading like wildfire. hollyf 10-03-2009 Saturday, 10:38 PM Ours is 7 days even if you are better before that....not sure if a family member is showing symptoms or not...I will have to call and ask if one gets it. We have been good so far...crossing my fingers! gabdommom 10-03-2009 Saturday, 11:43 PM I've just heard fever free for 24 hours, and no cough (although the cough can linger, so I guess when the cough isn't bugging you too much :lol :dunno). nadean 10-04-2009 Sunday, 04:45 PM Our dr said that they were ok after they were fever free for 24 hrs and on tamiflu for 48 hrs. I don't know how long if they are not on tamiflu. sportsmom 10-04-2009 Sunday, 09:48 PM Our dr said once they are fever free for 24 hrs :yeah Both dr and school district said "return to school when they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications." pinkandstars09 10-04-2009 Sunday, 10:00 PM i dont have school age kids but i heard if anyone in the family is diagnosed the whole house should stay home. i know johns work said the same thing for them to stay home if anyone has any members with flu symptoms. sportsmom 10-04-2009 Sunday, 10:59 PM My dr didn't say stay home. Heck, I ran volleyball games Friday night. I took the older one to her soccer game, to church, to dinner, Party City (saw a coupld DAMers there) on Sat & hubby took her out today to get a special thing for being on green all card marking. The dr did say for us to separate the sick one from us though. We tried our best to have her in a separate room. Julia 10-06-2009 Tuesday, 05:57 PM I didn't take my sick one to the doctor. I'm assuming it's swine flu since his symptoms were the same as his confirmed friends in the "hood". I don't like to be around more cooties when their immune system is down. If there was a symptom I was overly concerned about - like breathing issues, chest pain, throat pain or dehydration.....then I would have taken him in. My well child went to school all week and so far, still no symptoms for her, myself or dh. it's been 6 days since the last day of his fever. I dont take my kids into the Dr unless I cannot manage them myself at home. If I can no longer make them comfortable then I bring them in. Or if their illness is lingering too long for my comfort then I bring them in but who knows what kind of junk is lingering around those Dr offices right now. Gross! I also think the older my kids get the less often they pass things back n forth. Its rare anymore for more then one of them to come down with the same thing. angie 10-06-2009 Tuesday, 06:23 PM The dr today said she could probably return Thurs! and she just had her first dose of Tamiflu tonight (have 5 days worth). I don't know if that is long enough though ~ her fever at the dr was 102. BUT, they only wrote out the dr not to include today through Thursday. momof4kiddos 10-06-2009 Tuesday, 07:02 PM Our doctor said one week (yesterday). She is already driving me crazy! Danielle 10-06-2009 Tuesday, 08:01 PM Our dr said once they are fever free for 24 hrs :yeah Kathmom07 10-07-2009 Wednesday, 03:26 PM For those whose doctors and/or schools are saying 1 week or seven days, would you be willing to PM me the school and/or dr's practice group? The reason is that my son's preschool is still saying 24 hours, and I want to try to get them to increase the number of days to 7 (to match the CDC recommendation!). My son has asthma and gets *very* sick when he does get sick, and given that we've already had H1N1 in his school, it seems like it's in everyone's best interest (definitely ours...) to err on the conservative side. Otherwise I may have to pull him out... he loves school, and this momma is in desperate need of a break. :( Any help is much appreciated! BTW, if it's OK if I post your school and/or dr's practice in a larger list (assuming I can compile a few), please let me know! |
