Not sure if I should get them the vaccine?

I'm on the fence about the kids gettign the H1N1 vaccine or the vaccine for the regular flu. DS has never had a flu shot. I'm not sure if DD could even get one. We follow common sense stuff with handwashing and all that. What are some things I should look at before I decide.

It is just the flu...just a well-publicized strain of it. If you follow common sense guidelines, then I wouldn't bother with the vaccine. I think having the strain referred to by name has made it a lot more frightening for folks.

DH freaks out about everything. I'm not typically the type to get all freaked out by something. Thanks Lyndsey! It's DH that is wanting to get them the vax. I'm like why. lol

I pretty nervous about the amount of people getting BOTH vaccines. Does anyone know if that can increase the instance of the two mutating together? It seems fairly probable to me but I don't have squat but some advanced biology classes in college to back up that theory. Grace? Thoughts?

We don't do any vaccines so we obviously aren't going to partake. Things you might want to look at are the rates of death associated with H1N1 and the regular flu, the ingredients of the two vaccines, your particular risk factors involved with receiving the vaccine or of getting either flu, and the particular risks/benefits of vaccinating in regards to YOUR family.

Also, you might check out the information on NVIC. http://www.nvic.org/

I didnt get my first flu shot until two years ago. I wont be getting Mason the shot but i will get it myself this year. Mason would not have gotten the flu shot last year either but my ex took him to his check up and told the dr to go ahead with the flu shot ( he didnt know i didnt want mason to get it)

We don't do flu shots here. I had the flu shot only once and ended up with a flu so bad that I almost ended up hospitalized. Michael has had only one flu shot and it was the only year in his whole life he has had the flu.

i've had the flu shot before and i've gone years without it - in fact, i spent the 5 years before i got pregnant with Sydney trying to catch the flu so that i could lose 10 pounds - it didn't work - my OB hasn't recommended that i get either vaccine and i don't plan on it - Sydney won't be getting it either

Thanks everyone. As usual, y'all help when I need it. Looks like the kiddos will not be getting either shot. I worry about them getting it from the vaccine more than getting it from someone else.

My husband always gets the regular flu vaccine since he works for a hospital.

My 11 yr old got his flu mist vaccine today. My other kids will be getting theirs shortly. As will I.

So many people are already getting sick and I feel its going to be a pretty bad flu season. My Dr highly recommends I get it since I am newly diagnosed as having epilepsy.

We don't get the shots each yr. But this year most definitely.

I am thinking this year we might get the regular Flu mist for the kids and shot for me. I don't know yet about H1N1. The kids school has already had more kids sick than last year. We had our first lice outbreak too, so we are taking multiple precautions.

My DH and two kids have gotten the regular flu shots. I was about to get mine, but got sick with Strep throat so I have to wait. I am on the fence about getting the H1N1 shots. I am waiting for now.

:yeah
I just feel I'm more at risk where I'm currently working and with it being M's first year in a K-6 public school. They've had a few sick (not H1N1 that I know of) and already had lice outbreaks within the first few weeks of school!

Micah is old enough to take airborne, but Brian is not. I can take it but don't like it :lol. And Shane's job is likely to make you stay when you are sick if *they* don't think its bad enough to send home! I feel like 3 of us are just in germ factories all the time and it would suck to bring it home to Brian. KWIM?

FWIW...I give Indi a few Occilicocinum pellets 3 times a day as a preventative. I should probably start doing the same, but I really think it is a big help. You don't need to take an entire vial. I did some research on it. Google it and you can find the info.

Holly, I've been giving all of us regular doses of Rueteri to strengthen the immune system via the gut.

We've got that, and it really helps.
