Cori-Nursing while pregnant

Hey Cori, I was sufing I Village on nursing moms and got on the fertility section. I know we are crazy, but I would totally be ok if we got pregnat now, not trying, and certainly not planning on weaning Ellie to start ovulating just researching. I know you are still nursing Julian and of course expecting a new addition in March. How is that going? Are you planning on nursing two babies? Knowing you, I am confident you have done your research. How does that work? Do you produce the kind of milk that a newborn would need and Julian adjusts? I know that first you have colostrum, then the thicker creamier milk, then later the mature milk. I am curious how Julian will do. I am so proud of you for nursing while pregnant!!!! Nursing mommies always make me proud, but nursing while pregnant is certainly a bigger deal. Nice job! I don't know that I could do it. Funny, how John's opinion is changing. I hear him proudly anouncing the Ellie is 100% breastfed to pretty much everyone when he talks about her. He was a little funny about going past a few months old at first, but I watch how he is changing opinion. I can imagine you would have to have total support from you hubby to continue as you have.

Nursing Julian is still going great. My midwife is fully supportive, and my LLL leader is a great source of information too. We have 3? tandem nursing mamas in our LLL group currently. I plan on nursing both, if Julian wants to.

LLL just put out a book called "Adventures in Tandem Nursing -nursing during pregnancy and beyond" ... I haven't read it yet, but I plan too.

Some babe's notice a change in flavor due to pregnancy. Some will self-wean/be open to weaning or just eat more solids when the supply drops during the 2nd trimester. Some will self-wean closer to the 3rd trimester when the milk changes to colostrum. And a lot will nurse on through all the changes. Julian's doing great so far. He definatly started eating more solids during the 2nd tri, but I always seem to have milk at each feeding. I'm drinking lots of water, and eating really healthy. My midwife checks my food journal at each appointment to make sure I'm getting the right balence.

We'll see how Julian adjusts when the colostrum comes in!

And yes, my hubby is fully supportive. Our whole family goes to each midwife appointment together, so Chris can ask his questions and he's (almost) as informed as I am about breastfeeding and childbirth. :love

I nursed Libby almost the whole time I was pregnant with Caroline. She did well with it also. (of course, she was only 2 mos when I got pregnant). She weaned right before Caroline was born. I did have a lot of trouble gaining weight though. I didn't gain anything until I was 6 mos pregnant and then I topped out at 15 pounds. Caroline didn't suffer though, she was 8 lb 4 oz.
I have had several friends that have tandem nursed and the kids did really well. Since the older one is usually a bit older than Libby was, they are on solids and cup drinking and have nursed more for bonding at nap and bedtime.
