Has anyone delivered at Baylor Irving? If so, what was your experience like?

Also, has anyone used a doula and would you recommend using one?
Any referrals? I live in Irving.

Thank you, ladies!

I delivered my youngest at Baylor Irving and it was nice. I had one PA that was a little cuckoo, lol. I didn't use doula since mine was a scheduled c-section.

I can answer all your questions. :) I am a doula and would be happy for to talk to you about my services. I live fairly close by in Coppell. I have done births with moms (and dads!) at Baylor Irving many times and would also be happy to share my experiences there. Who is your OB? I also know the names of some great nurses that work there I would be happy to pass on. I have always had great nurses there!

Just PM or email or whatever and I can try to help as much as possible. :)

I have done one birth at Baylor Irving and it was a different doctor than yours. It would depend on what you were looking for in a birth, as to how I would say the birth was.

If you plan to have an epidural, and kind of "go with the flow" of them doing things the way they always do them and don't ask for any special treatment, it will probably go fine for you. My client wanted some "out of the ordinary" things, like to wear her own gown, have a heplock instead of an IV, not have an epidural, not have an episiotomy, etc. and she met with quite a bit of resistance, and was not treated very compassionately/respectfully by the nurses and OB. However, if she had not been "telling them how to do their job" or "standing in the way of them providing her medical care" by making those requests, they would very likely have been fine.

As the doula, I was treated fine, no one said anything rude to *me*, or expressed any concern with my presence or anything. So I think you would be fine to have a doula there, and if you want all the "standard things" then it shouldn't be a situation where they would say that kind of thing to you.

Hope that helps!

Dr. Jeff Livingston at MacArthur OB/GYN is the best! His office is at 3501 N. MacArthur Blvd., Suite 500, Irving, Texas 75062 (near MacArthur HS) and also works out of Baylor Irving which is down the street. He is caring and compassionate! He delivered 2 of my girls.

I had my middle daughter at Baylor Irving and hated it!!! An hour after birth they took her to the nursery to bathe and check her out. They said it would take about 20-30 minutes. I was ok with that. I placed a card in the bassinet saying I was bf'ing and no bottles or pacis. An HOUR later I told dh to go check on her. He came back saying there was one nurse bathing and checking them and there were 9 babies lined up in basinetes waiting to be checked. Lena was 6th in line!! I told him to go back and get her. Ten minutes later he came back without her and told me I was going to be upset. He said they were giving her a bottle. I freaked and screamed for him to get me a wheelchair. I did quite a bit of cursing and yelling. They said they had to give her a bottle cause her blood sugar dropped. Um, ya, she hadnt eaten in a while cause they had her lined up with all the other babies! I was furious. They could have brought her back to me to nurse. She had sat there for 2 hours by the time I got to her. We were vegan so milk was very much against my beliefs and for them to give it to her because of thier own lazieness (not bringing her to me) is unforgivable.
I am not sure how they do things there now, this has been 3 years. I know that at the time this was not out of the ordinary. Everytime I walked by the windows of the nursery there were at least 5 or 6 babies lined up waiting.
