Small vs. Large OB-GYN practice?

Hi everyone,
I'm pregnant and new to Dallas. I am trying to choose between 2 doctors in the Presbytarian hospital--Tara Dullye and Jane Nokleberg. I've read good things about both doctors on this forum. But Dr. Dullye has a small practice (2 doctors), while Nokleberg has a large one (7 doctors), I am wondering if a small practice is better than a large one? or vice versa?

In a small practice, there are fewer people to rotate call, so your chances of your doctor being the one at your birth are better... (Unless you schedule an induction or a cesarean, in which case you would schedule for a day when your doctor in a large practice was the one doing deliveries. But if you are planning a spontaneous labor, then a smaller practice gives you more like a 50/50 shot at having your preferred care provider versus 1 in 7.) So that is one plus of a smaller practice...

I find it comforting to go to a big practice. Maybe because so many patients trust them? I'm not sure. Good luck with your decision!

I used a bigger practice with my DS. I loved my doctor but it did stress me out about not having her for delivery. She ended up inducing me and then 24hrs later I ended up with a c-section. My doctor did go on maternity leave during my pregnancy so I had a chance to meet some of the other doctors in the office. They were all very nice though. You also might want to check with the smaller office. Sometimes smaller offices rotates calls with other small offices.

I like smaller practices better for the reason Delilah mentioned. I currently see a practice that has two midwives - it's nice to know, at that practice, that you'll get one of those two at delivery. Just an aside about Dr. Nokleberg (I used to go to her practice and have friends that still do) - she is really great, but she is also very popular and can have very long wait times to get in to see her for appointments (as in, you get there and have to wait over an hour sometimes to see her because she has a lot of appts scheduled for each day). I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Dullye and if her typical wait time is shorter that's another plus for her in my mind.

I used Dr. Nokleberg for my last pregnancy and was pleased. They had me see all the doctors in the group prior to my delivery date so that I wouldn't be meeting anyone for the first time in the delivery room. I personally like a small practice, but I thought this was a good way to manage a pregnancy for a larger practice.
