3apples 11-03-2008 Monday, 02:41 PM dr. rana said at children's is an epileptololgist and is excellent, she is, however, difficult to get into. i don''t know what the wait is these days. she is with children's medical center, the main number is 214-456-7000 and then ask for neurology clinic and they can let you know how to proceed (i.e., may need referral).
hope that helps
3apples 11-03-2008 Monday, 02:42 PM her name is Rana Said if that wasn't clear in the above post, sorry, it might look like the word said, but it's pronounced sah-yeed.

Dallas214Mom 11-03-2008 Monday, 02:53 PM Hi Micki,
I know of an awesome Neurosurgeon at Children's. His name is Dr. Dale Swift (214) 456-6660. He looked at an MRI of my DD's head when she was 7 months old. My Mom is a nurse and he is friend of hers. He was one of the Dr.s who operated on one of those sets of conjoined twins that had surgery here in Dallas. Anyway I know that you are specifically looking for a Neurologist maybe his office can refer your friend to an awesome one and or quite possibly he could see the child.
theartsyone 11-03-2008 Monday, 03:13 PM Well you know my opinion of Dr Swift.
Sorry no help with the neurologist. :( Hope they find a great one.
Summer70 11-03-2008 Monday, 03:17 PM I love Dr. Mcglathlin.
682-885-4000 asks for child neurology. Dr Chacon is great too. They have Lewisville and Denton offices too.
Summer70 11-03-2008 Monday, 03:19 PM The thing about Dallas Childrens is that they have implemented a new intake process that can take months to get in, unless you go through the ER. Even through the ER, you can wait in the waiting room for 12+ hours. I feel they do not treat their patients with respect. DH's family has given very large amounts of money in donation to that hospital and MIL is in a hissy that I won't take my children there. I know we get better treatment because of that, but it is still not good enough for us.
Summer70 11-03-2008 Monday, 03:46 PM Here is a run down of the new process to get in with a Dallas childrens doctor. You have to have your doctor send over a referal as well as copies of all the records. From there, a committee meets about once a month to review records to decide which patients they will take and which they will not. So, you could wait that time and do all that work and still not be picked. It is much like a college admissions process, only your child can get sicker in the meantime. Once you have been accepted, then you will be allowed to make an appointment, which could be 6 months or more out.
There is much more negative to be said. Last time we were there, we got in right away because the connections and all. But once there, they were confused. Records were missing due to a conversation to electronic records. Then they could not make my son his follow up appointment. Then they called give me my son's test results, only did not get me and left a message on the voice mail. I tried to call back but never could get any results. Finally, because it got back to someone about the problems we had, we did get a call back, but again, most people never would have gotten a call back. Meanwhile, there was some issue where the person working the appointment desk was in training and did not know how to make my son's appointment. The people training her were far too busy talking about some movie they had seen and their weekend plans to help her. I was told I would be called with his follow up check up time because the lady in training did not want to interrupt her trainer. We left and called back, never got the answers on the results and also were never told when DS next appointment was as they kept saying they were still waiting on that. Then one evening, I got a call that was an appointment reminder for the next morning...12 hrs from the call! I was..umm...12 hrs from now? What am I supposed to do with that? that won't work! They said take it or he would have to wait another 6 months!!! I said he would just have to wait. 6 months go by and then we get told we have to completely redo the entire admissions procedure just for him to get his follow up visit? Unbelievable!!! All because I could not make an appointment with literally notice of only 12 hrs.
Anyway, I highly do not recommend Dallas Children's now. There was a lot more to say, but you get the idea.
Chera25 11-03-2008 Monday, 03:51 PM We did not have a good experience with Cassidy's Neuro. at Children's but she is no longer practicing there.
However, I'd have been excited for her to see an Epileptologist when she was diagnosed with Epilepsy - so I would try 3apples recommendation 1st!
The Neuro. that diagnosed Cassidy was Dr. Chudnow (cannot remember the rest of his info., I'm sure it could be googled ;)) - he read her first 4 EEG's & diagnosed her in the ER.
The Neuro. she sees now is through Scottish Rite, but you have to be IN Scottish Rite through Ortho. to see the other specialist clinics there.
:hug & :pray to them!!!
kristin 11-03-2008 Monday, 04:13 PM We've been happy with Dr. Riela - he is with Dr. Chudnow....
Ashley3 11-03-2008 Monday, 04:37 PM We used to see Dr. Sperry at North Dallas Pediatric Neurologists, but he recently moved to Chicago. We went just last week to see Dr. Majeed who I believe took Dr. Sperry's place. He was really good. He listened to me and let me finish my thoughts. He seemed genuinely concerned with some issues. He made Anna feel very comfortable and built rapport with her. I would definitely recommed him. His Dallas Pediatric Neurology~~Dr. Majeed
7777 Forest Ln # A307,(at Medical City) Dallas, TX - (972) 566-8600
Also, it was not very difficult for us to get in with him fwiw!
Good luck!
Chera25 11-03-2008 Monday, 05:45 PM We've been happy with Dr. Riela - he is with Dr. Chudnow....
